Barnet travel to Devon tomorrow night for the re-scheduled League Two relegation battle at Plainmoor against Torquay United, following the game’s postponement on Saturday. Their was a mixed bag of results last weekend at the bottom end of the table with Accrington winning 2-0 at home to Morecambe, a result that takes Accrington on to 51 points, a total that in most seasons would mean safety. Accrington are now 18th just below Dagenham & Redbridge on goal difference. The Daggers lost 1-0 at home to Oxford United on Saturday and are still not safe. Both Accrington and Plymouth have played 44 games.
Two points and one place below Accrington are Plymouth Argyle who lost on Saturday by virtue of a last minute goal at promotion challengers, Burton Albion; the Brewers winning 1-0. The Pilgrims have 49 points but have played only 43 games and have a game in hand on the two sides above them. Tomorrow night they travel to Chesterfield who still have an outside chance of the play offs.
Just below them are York city who have had something of a resurgence in form after being in freefall. York grabbed what could be an invaluable three points with a highly unexpected 2-0 win at promotion hopefuls, Northampton Town on Saturday, a win that took them out of the bottom two. York have played 44 games.
Also on 49 points are AFC Wimbledon who dropped two home points on Saturday with a 2-2 draw with play-off chasers, ExeterCity. The Wombles have also played 44 games.
In 22nd place are, of course(!!), the Bees whose last game saw a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Chesterfield. However, Barnet had previously taken 8 points from 4 games, the last of which was a 1-0 away win at AFC Wimbledon. Barnet have played 43 matches and tomorrow are away, as already noted above, to Torquay United who are 23rd with 46 points from 43 games. No nee to say what a vital game this could turn out to be for both clubs.
At the foot of the table are Aldershot who lost 2-1 away at Wycombe on Saturday and are at home to Southend United tomorrow. Southend only have the slimmest of chances of a play off place and the Shots will be hoping that their visitors will have taken their foot off the gas and that it will mean three vital pints for the home side. Aldershot have 45 points from 43 matches.
Tomorrow’s games could go a long way towards shaping how the bottom of the table will look come the end of the season but even if clubs lose there will be chances still to escape the drop and this applies to Barnet too of course.
