Barnet’s disappointing 3-2 defeat at Plainmoor on Tuesday has seen the Bees drop into the relegation zone at a very bad time with just two matches left to play and things were not helped with Plymouth’s 2-1 away win at Chesterfield. Jake Hyde’s two goals for the Bees were not enough to help Edgar Davids’ side come back from a 3-1 deficit and has taken Barnet’s destiny out of their own hands. However, it is highly unlikely that if Barnet were to win their last two matches, as they did last season, that they would be relegated. Of course, winning those games is not that simple.
The other game that affected the bottom of the table on Tuesday night was the visit of Southend to Aldershot and the Shots own survival odds were not helped with a 2-0 defeat that sees them now very much on the brink of dropping out of the football league. Aldershot are three points below Barnet and four from safety and even wins in both their last two matches may not be enough to ensure their League Two future for next season. Anything less and they are likely to go down.
This weekend sees the Shots at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, themselves still not clear of relegation and defeat for Aldershot will see them definitely relegated. The Daggers are on 51 points as are Accrington who travel to mid table, Bristol Rovers. Plymouth Argyle, who have 52 points after their win at Chesterfield can ensure their safety for the season with a win at home to 3rd placed Rotherham, who are chasing automatic promotion.
Three sides are on 49 points, one point above the drop zone; Torquay travel to Morecambe. York City are at home to Southend, who won at Aldershot on Tuesday and AFC Wimbledon have a very difficult drip to martin Allen’s champions elect, Gillingham while the Bees are. Of course, at home to Wycombe in the last ever League game at Underhill.
