Barnet and AFC Wimbledon first met in the 2011/12 season after Wimbledon gained promotion from the Conference. The firs meeting was a 1-1 draw at Kingsmeadow with Izale McLeod scoring for the Bees. In the return, Barnet, now fighting in a relegation battle, won the return game at Underhill, in April, 4-0 with goals from Ricky Holmes, Sam Deering, Ben May and Mark Hughes. It was Martin Allen's second game on his return to Underhill for his third spell at Barnet and a 2-1 win at Burton on the last day secured the Bees' League Two safety.
The following season, 2012/13, the game at Underhill ended in a 1-1 draw with Jake Hyde scoring for the Bees. The match at Kingsmeadow was in April and Barnet were again in a relegation battle, this time under Edgar Davids, as were Wimbledon and a late Keanu Marsh Brown gave the Bees all three points, a result that suggested that the club should stay up, maybe at the expense of Wimbledon. However, 3 defeats out of the last 4 matches coupled with Wimbledon's last day home win over Fleetwood meant that it was Barnet who were relegated.
