Barnet have met Bournemouth eight times before. Barnet have won three times and Bournemouth, twice with the other three games being drawn.

The first meeting between the two sides came in 1992 in the 1st round of the FA Cup with Barnet playing their first season in league football. After gaining a goalless draw at Dean Court, hopes were high of an upset in the replay at Underhill against the 3rd division club. However, first half goals from Lovell and Mundee gave Bournemouth a 2-0 half time lead and, despite a second half goal from Mark Carter, they ran out 2-1 winners.

In 1993-94, the two sides met for the first time in league football, following Barnet's promotion the previous season to the 2nd Division. In the match at Underhill, a Nicky Evans goal was not enough as Bournemouth won 2-1 with goals from Masters and Fletcher. In the return fixture at Dean Court, the game ended 1-1, Aspinall scoring for the Cherries and Geoff Cooper equalising for the Bees. Barnet were relegated at the end of the season.

The next time the two sides met was in 1999 in the 1st round of the Worthington (League) Cup played over two legs. In the first keg at Dean Court, Scott McGleish had an early effort disallowed and Bournemouth took control with goals from James Hayter and William Huck. Greg Heald crashed a header against the Bournemouth bar in the dying minutes but the Cherries took a 2-0 lead to Underhill for the 2nd leg.

In the 2nd leg, at Underhill, current Barnet Physiotherapist, Mark Stein, scored twice within 20 minutes to put the Cherries 4-0 up on aggregate. Barnet hit back with Scott McGleish scoring on 25 minutes and then scoring from the penalty area just before half time. On 65 minutes, Warren Hackett scored to bring it back to 4-3 on aggregate and 3-2 to Barnet on the night. In the dying minutes, McGleish almost equalised when he lobbed the keeper, only for Ian Cox to clear desperately off the line, though it looked, to many, as though the ball was over the line when it was cleared. Barnet went out 4-3 on aggregate. The Barnet side that night was, Naisbitt, Stockley (King), Sawyers (Ansell), Heald, Arber, Doolan, Charlery (Strevens), Currie, Hackett, McGleish, Toms.

The last time the teams met was at Underhill in October 2001 in the 1st round of the LDV Vans Trophy (now the JPT). Goals from Robbie Sawyers and Roy Essendoh gave the Bees a 2-0 win. Barnet beat Reading and Northampton to reach the semi-finals of the Southern Section of the trophy where they went down 2-0 away at Cambridge United.

Earlier this season, the two sides met at Bournemouth. The match, played just after Christmas, was Paul Fairclough's last match as manager and the Bees won 2-0 with both goals coming from Albert Adomah.
