PAST TIMES: Burnley

Barnet travel this week to meet Championship club, Burnleyin the 2nd round of the Carling Cup. The two clubs have met on five occasions prior to this weeks game and the Bees have yet to win a game against the Lancashire club.

The first meeting was in the 1991/92 season following Barnet’s promotion from the Conference and Burnley were a Division 4 side. Both league games were played in March, the first at Burnley ending in a 3-0 win for the home side while the game at Underhill ended goalless. Burnley were promoted at the end of the season while the Bees lost out to Blackpool in the play-offs.

In 1992/93, Barnet were promoted to the third tier of the Football League (now Division 2) and the two clubs met again, drawing 1-1 at Underhill, Sean Close scoring for Barnet while Burnley won 5-0 at Turf Moor. At the end of that season Barnet were relegated.

The last time the two clubs met was in 1999 in the 1st round of the FA Cup at Underhill and Burnley won 1-0. The Barnet side that day was; Harrison, Gledhill (Strevens), Heald (Basham), Arber, Hackett, Searle, Doolan, Brown (Barnes), Toms, Charlery, McGleish.
