Barnet and Mansfield Town first met in 1991/92 following Barnet's promotion from the Conference and Barnet completed a league double over the stags winning 2-1 home and away; Mark Carter and Gary Bull scoring at Field Mill and Paul Showler and Harry Willis at Underhill. Mansfield were promoted however at the end of the season and Barnet went up the following year but by 1994/95 the two sides were back in the fourth tier and the Stags won 3-0 at Field Mill and the game at Underhill ended goalless.

In 1995/96, the game at Underhill was again goalless and Mansfield won 2-1 at Field Mill, Linvoy Primus scoring the Barnet goal. The following season, both matches were drawn; 0-0 at Field Mill and 1-1 at Underhill, Gary Brazil scoring for the Bees.

In 1997/98, under John Still, Barnet won away at Field Mill, a Paul Wilson penalty and a goal from Scott McGleish getting a 2-1 win for the Bees but Mansfield won 1-0 at Underhill. The Underhill ficture between the two sides was not one to go to for goals!!

In 1998/99, the match at Underhill again finished goalless and Barnet were hammered 5-0 at Mansfield. When Barnet met at Underhill in December 1999, they were top of the Division 3, but again the match finished goalless. However, a Marlon King goal at Field Mill in April gave the \bees a valuable 1-0 as they pushed for a play off place.

In 2000/01, there was a veritable feast of goals as the two sides drew 3-3, Sam Stockley, Mark Arber and McGleish scoring for the Bees but Mansfield won the match at Field Mill 4-1 as Barnet careered towards relegation. Ben Strevens scored for Barnet.

Since Barnet's return to the league in 2005, our meetings with the Stags have seen the home sides victorious on all 4 occasions. The first game was back in October 2005 at Field Mill when Mansfield Town comprehensively beet the Bees 4-0. Mansfield were sitting at the bottom of the table, while the Bees after going top of  the table after 4 matches with 10 points, had gathered only 5 points from the previous 10 games and were in freefall. The match took place on the weekend before Barnet's historic Carling Cup meeting with Manchester United.

Simon King gave away a first half penalty, which Richie Barker converted and second half goals from Simon Brown, Adam Rundle and another from Barker completed the rout. The win took Mansfield off the bottom of the table.

The return match at Underhill, on Easter Monday, was a must win game for the Bees. Following a limp 2-0 defeat the previous Saturday at fellow strugglers, Oxford United, only a late Rochdale goal at Rushden & Diamonds had kept Barnet out of the bottom two and a win was vital if the Bees were going to edge away from the drop. Happily Barnet won when Liam Hatch finally got off the mark for the season with the only goal of the game, smashing the ball home following a corner. Mansfield finished with only 9 men after Giles Coke and Danny Reet were sent off, yet it was the Bees who were hanging on and nearly lost two points when Richie Barker hit a post with a late effort. The win proved to be a tonic for the Bees who ended the season safe in 18th place.

In 2006/07, Mansfield came to Underhill, just before Christmas with the Bees needing to kick start their season. Despite a very poor performance, Barnet took all three points with a 2-1 win. Ismail Yakubu put the Bees ahead just before half time with a headed goal following a Jason Puncheon corner. Barnet went 2-0 up in the second half through a goal from Adam Gross, his first, and as it turned out his last, goal for the club. Gross played a 1-2 with makeshift striker, Paul Warhurst before smashing a left foot drive into the net. Richie Barker grabbed a late goal for the Stags but Barnet held on for what was the first in a run of four consecutive wins which briefly took them into the top half and promised a possible play off place.

By the time Barnet went to Field Mill for the last way game of the season in April, both sides had had to settle for a mid table finish and again the home side won with a mirrored score from the last game, Mansfield winning 2-1 this time with goals from Barry Conlan and Simon Brown. Adam Birchall got a scrambled goal against his former club for the Bees. Barnet finished the season 14th, while Mansfield were three places below in 17th.

In 2007/08, both matches were drawn. Liam Hatch scored for Barnet in a 1-1 draw at Underhill and Anthony Thomas and Adam Birchall scored in a 2-2 draw at Field Mill. At the end of the season, Mansfield were relegated.
