Barnet meet Watford tomorrow night at Underhill in the 1st round of the Carling Cup. Most of the previous meetings between the two sides have been in the Herts Senior Cup. The first meeting was in 1978 at Vicarage Road when the Hornets won 5-1. Jimmy Greaves scored the Bees' goal. The following season, a Lou Adams goal gave Barnet a 1-0 win. Watford won the following 5 meetings until 1989 when Andy Clarke scored 4 goals in a 5-2 win at Underhill.

In 1991, the two sides reached the final of the tournament and Barnet won 5-2 with two goals from Harry Willis and one apiece for Gary Bull, Tony Lynch and Paul Culpin. Two years later, the two sides reached the final again and again, Barnet were the winners, this time 4-2 with goals from Mick Bodley, Gary Bull, Jonathon Hunt and Darren Oxbrow.

Watford won the next two meetings, but in 1996, the two sides reached the final again and Barnet ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Paul Wilson and Terry Robbins. The following season, Barnet won a 3rd round meeting 2-0 at Underhill with goals from Sean Devine and Cowans.

The two clubs have met twice more since in the Herts Senior Cup with Watford winning both of the games, the last being in 2001. The only other time that the two clubs have met in a competitive fixture was in 1997 in the 1st round of the FA Cup in front of over 4,000 fans at Underhill. Ken Charlery scored for the Bees but the Hornets won 2-1.
