Barnet 2-0 Hayes
Barnet had six squad players injured for this match and badly needed a win after losing 2-1 at Doncaster on Saturday. Yeovil themselves could only manage a draw at home with Gravesend.
Last season this match finished 3-2 for Town and Yeovil started the most lively of the two sides creating several chances and having two shots that were wide of the mark.
Against the run of the play it was Barnet who opened the scoring when in the sixth minute the Bees had a free-kick 23 yards from goal, David Hillier and Mark Arber both stood over the ball and after a quick flick it was Mark Gower who drove the ball past the wall, it struck the right-hand post and went past keeper Chris Weale.
Yeovil continued to attack forcing a number of corners, Nick Crittenden's shot was deflected over the bar and Lee Harrison, the Barnet keeper, was forced to head clear from the same player. Barnet's attacks were mainly from Gower crosses, but the Yeovil defence stood firm.
In the closing stages of the first half Abdoulai Demba lobbed Harrison, but Barnet defender Craig Pope headed the ball of the line.
Moments later a Michael McIndoe cross from the right was again headed goalwards by Demba, only for Lee Gledhill to clear for a corner.
Arber the Barnet captain was injured in a collision and had lengthy treatment to his head, but he returned to the field wearing a very thick bandage, but he was stiil able to head the ball clear.
Barnet had their first corner of the game on the stroke of half time but again the Yeovil defenders cleared.
In the second half Barnet scored against the run of play when Arber was able to head the ball from the by-line and Ben Strevens headed home from five yards.
It was not until the 76th minute that Yeovil managed to score Leon Bell held Lee Johnson on the edge of the box and Johnson took the free-kick himself right-footed and it easily beat the wall and keeper Harrison.
Town continued to press for an equaliser but the Barnet defence held out to record a 2-1 home win
Barnet 2-1 Dagenham
The Bees went behind after 41 seconds and it looked like a rout but the Bees came back with goals from Greg Heald in the first half and then a winner the death by Junior Agogo
After just 41 seconds the visitors opened the scoring when Gary FletcherÂ’s left-wing cross was placed home by Paul Terry with his left foot giving keeper Danny Naisbitt no chance.
Conditions were wet and windy and players were often sliding over, this helped the lively forwards such as Junior Agogo, who after 15 minutes steered Mark Gower's corner over the bar.
Minutes later Agogo had a right-foot shot that went just wide of the post and left-back Lee Flynn tried a drive from 30 yards but his shot was well wide.
At the other end Daggers striker Junior McDougald broke through and Bees keeper Naisbitt has to race out of his area to partly clear the ball which ended up near the corner flag.
Naisbitt was then forced to concede a foul rather then let the striker shoot at the empty goal.
Dagenham seemed to be happy to play defensively and hold on to their one-goal advantage. This enabled John Doolan and Gower to take charge of the midfield and for Agogo and Wayne Purser to show their speed and test the visitors backline.
It was no surprise when Barnet equalised in the 31st minute when captain Greg Heald headed home Gower's cross from ten yards.
In the second half Dagenham's Danny Shipp was booked for a foul and three minutes later was given a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.
Dagenham side then played with a 5-3-1 line-up and were hard pressed to keep the Bees away from the goal.
It was no surprise when in the 94th minute of the game, loan signing Ian Hendon hit a 40-yard ball which Agogo controlled, before beating Tim Cole to score from ten yards.
The Bees deserved their win, but Dagenham had made them work for the three points.
Stevenage Boro 1-2 Barnet
This was a great day in 2002!! Junior Agogo penalty and a brilliant overhead kick by Ben Strevens won the derby against the scum Stevenage Borough then managed by Wayne Turner.
Stevenage crashed to their second home defeat in just three days as Barnet came to Broadhall Way and claimed all three points with an impressive performance.
After a stuttering start Stevenage have taken just five points from a possible 15 and manager Wayne Turner is facing increasing pressure from a disillusioned home support.
However, Stevenage began this vital contest brightly, and after a well-worked move in the 12th minute the lively Graeme Tomlinson might have done better as he blasted over from close range following a knockdown from Kirk Jackson.
Although both sides shared equal possession it was Barnet who created the better of the chances with Ben Strevens seeing a shot come back off the bar after seven minutes following Robin Trott's poor clearance from a corner.
Mark Gower forced a diving save from Stevenage keeper Mark Westhead after the home defence was again undone.
As the first half wore on the chances lessened and Stevenage saw their best effort come in injury-time when Tomlinson reacted instinctively to a poor clearance from keeper Lee Harrison only to see his effort glance just wide of the post.
Barnet began more aggressively at the start of the second half and again hit the woodwork in the 48th minute when Gower saw a long-range free-kick come back off the bar and Jason Soloman then headed the rebound over.
With both sides unable to convert their chances it was fitting that Barnet took the lead from the penalty spot. Junior Agogo found the back of the net as he fired his penalty to Westhead's right-hand post after Matt Fisher was adjudged to have handled Agogo's cross.
Barnet looked to have made the game safe with a second goal in the 77th minute which would have graced any Champions League match as Strevens fired home a spectacular overhead kick from just inside the area following a Matt Gledhill cross.
Stevenage pulled a goal back with nine minutes left and again it was from the spot as Jason Goodliffe blasted his spot-kick home after Strevens had handled a Tomlinson drive in the area.
The goal failed to spark a late revival however and indeed it was Barnet substitute Wayne Purser who made the biggest impact as he twice shot wide in the closing minutes as the visitors threatened to embarrass their hosts further
Barnet 3-1 Southport
This was part of a new era for the club! Peter Shreeves had just left due to poor results and Martin Allen took over as manager this was his first game incharge of the club infront of just 700
Peter Shreeves, the former Spurs and Sheffield Wednesday boss, resigned as the Barnet manager before the game.
He had been in charge for just over a year but said: "I was unhappy that I was not able to give the Bees fans the success they deserve."Coach Martin Allen has taken over the running of the team until the end of the season and was delighted with his team's performance against free-falling Southport.
The first shot on target by the Bees came in the 14th minute when Neil Midgley drilled home a left-footed shot from 15 yards. He was unmarked and the Southport defenders were slow in closing him down.
For the visitors Lee Ashcroft had a left-wing cross deflected for a corner and Dean Howell also attempted a cross and captain for the day Lee Pluck was forced to head the ball for a corner.
John Doolan, recovering from a groin strain, was controlling the midfield and set up Wayne Purser whose header on target forced Steve Dickinson to make another save.
Both Midgley and Frazer Toms went close for Barnet and Keith Rowland and Mark Gower's corners were causing problems for the visitors.
In the second half Doolan limped off the field and was replaced by Lette Baimass. Gower had a run and a left-wing cross and the defenders were unable to clear the ball and Purser was there to head home with a backward flick header.
Five minutes later Southport scored when Kieran Charnock's cross was headed home from ten yards by Paul Wheatcroft.
The same player hit a tremendous shot on goal but luckily for the Bees, Daniel Naisbitt was able to dive and turn the ball away.
In the closing minutes of the game Gower's right-footed free-kick was turned for a corner by Barry Hogan and from Gower's corner Midgley scored his second goal and Barnet's third.
Gravesend 2-2 Barnet
I don't know why i nominated this game I just did! The Bees faithful made a lot of noice and I thought i would just put it here!
Gravesend manager Andy Ford admitted a point wasn't good enough for his side who now go into their final two games needing at least four points to avoid the possibility of a swift return to the Ryman League.
Gravesend did well to recover from going a goal down inside the first minute to come back and lead 2-1 at half time, before an excellent strike by youngster Craig Pope earned the visitors a share of spoils.
Barnet's Frazer Toms was carried off and taken to hospital with a suspected double fracture and goalkeeper Daniel Naisbitt also ended up on a stretcher and had to be replaced by youngster Ricky Millard.
Barnet's caretaker manager Martin Allen produced a surprise by dropping Junior Agogo to the bench but could not have wished for a better start as Neil Midgley punished Gravesend for some hesitant defending as they waited for an offside flag that never came, rounding Paul Wilkerson to stab home.
Wilkerson stopped Barnet going 2-0 up on five minutes when he pulled off a fine save to deny Mark Gower who had a highly industrious afternoon in the Barnet midfield and is surely destined to play at a higher level next season.
Gravesend's Liam Hatch twice finished poorly, before fellow front man Kevin Budge fired just wide on nine minutes. He had another shot deflected but saved by Naisbitt before Gravesend drew level after 26 minutes.
Barnet defender Matt Langston was booked for persistent fouling, and from the free-kick Hatch bundled the ball home for the Gravesend equaliser.
Two minutes later Toms came off worst in a 50-50 challenge with Robert Owen, and the ground fell silent as he writhed in agony with a stretcher called for immediately.
Agogo replaced him pleasing a couple of top club scouts who had made the trip to spy on him as he is destined to also leave Underhill in the summer.
Tostao Kwashi went down in the box before Hatch and Budge had two other efforts blocked.
Four minutes of injury time were added on due to Toms' injury and Gravesend defender Francis Duku found himself unmarked to blast the ball home following good work by Justin Skinner and Jimmy Jackson.
Gravesend thought they had made it 3-1 seven minutes into the second half but Budge's effort was ruled out for offside.
Millard then came on for Naisbitt but was rarely troubled and Barnet made Gravesend pay for more slack defending when Agogo set up Pope to finish with his unfancied left foot and leave the Kent club chasing a winner that never came.
The result means that Gravesend are now just above the bottom three only on goal difference ahead of the Easter Monday trip to Farnborough.
Barnet 2-0 Telford United
This was again the start of a new era as the Bees started the season with an all new team signed by Martin Allen with only 3 players from the season before (i think) Naisbett,Yakubu and Benny Strevens.
Barnet captain Ian Hendon led his team to a well deserved 2-0 victory over Telford United in sweltering conditions in North London.
The 30-year-old will try to claim the second Barnet goal after his shot took a wicked deflection off Telford defender Scott Eustace.
"Ian defended well," said Barnet manager Martin Allen after the match.
"The whole team defended well and we took our chances."Barnet controlled the game and took the lead in the 49th minute through a brilliant strike from striker and longest serving club member Ben Strevens.
"It was a brilliant goal by Strevens," added Allen. "It was good to see after him coming back from such a serious injury."Strevens missed most of last season after a serious ankle injury sidelined the striker for six months.
Man of the match Hendon showed all of his experience as he controlled the game from the back and was instrumental in keeping the Telford forwards at bay.
Hendon played a big part in Barnet's second goal when he won the ball in his own half and ran the length of the pitch to the Telford area.
He shot low and hard at the Telford goal and his shot took a big deflection off defender Eustace and beat the keeper at his near post.
Barnet could have had more goals but for wayward finishing and the fact that the referee twice disallowed Barnet appeals for a penalty.
"I was impressed by all the players today," said Allen. "It was a great start to the season and an ideal way to start a busy week of three games in seven days."
Burton 2-3 Barnet
For all but the last ten minutes you thought yeah we really could go up!
Burton's ten men just failed to rescue a point after scoring two late goals in a bad tempered affair at Eton Park.
Barnet seemed to be strolling to victory when they built a three-goal lead after Brewers midfielder Christian Moore had been sent off for violent conduct.
But the Londoners had to hang on at the end as Burton dragged themselves off the floor to score headed goals by Robbie Talbot and Steve Chettle.
Referee Shaun Proctor-Green was the busiest man on the pitch, dishing out eight yellow cards as well as showing Moore a red one.
Barnet were the big offenders in the first half when they gave away the majority of the 30 fouls that made it a stop-start affair.
But the visitors also had a monopoly of the ball and could easily have been in front in the first 15 minutes.
One spell of heavy pressure had Burton reeling with Ismail Yakabu having an overhead kick blocked before Ben Strevens had his lob tipped over by Matt Duke and Yakabu was denied again, this time by Darren Stride's goal-line clearance.
Burton finally yielded to this pressure in the 36th minute, when the dangerous Yakabu pulled the ball back from the byline and Giuliano Grazioli scooped the ball over the line at the second attempt despite being off balance.
It went from bad to worse for Burton in an 11-minute spell of the second half.
Moore was sent off in the 48th minute for elbowing Joe Gamble and 11 minutes later the home team shot themselves in the foot again when Terry Henshaw's mis-hit clearance 20 yards out looped over the head of Duke and into his own net.
Barnet stretched their lead with a superb breakaway attack that ended with Grazioli tapping in his second goal from Mark Rooney's low cross to the far post.
But Burton fought back bravely after re-organising their attack and Talbot scored his first goal since joining the club with a close range header from Aaron Webster's corner in the 84th minute.
Barnet were found wanting at another set piece three minutes later when Chettle powered home a header from Jon Howard's corner but despite frantic late pressure the Londoners held out for what was, in truth, a deserved victory.
Stevenage 1-2 Barnet
Who could forget the day on September 13th? A great day for Barnet and the fans and the celebrations and now hung up in the Durham Suite.
In a game where Stevenage shaded the first half it was an energetic and determined Barnet side who emerged for the second and deservedly took all three points.
In the late summer heat of Broadhall Way this battle of Hertfordshire's premier teams started slowly.
It burst into life on 14 minutes when Boro's Anthony Elding struck a firm if straight forward shot at Bees debutant keeper David Forde. His poor save saw the ball spill out of his hands and Rocky Baptiste was there to stab the ball home from close range.
The closest Barnet came to scoring in the first 20 minutes was through a backpass to Lionel Perez and when his casual clearance hit Giuliano Grazioli's rear and cannoned just past the post.
Barnet keeper Forde redeemed himself ten minutes after the goal when once again Elding was through one-on-one and he produced a superb save to deny the Boro forward.
Baptiste again went close after having his header tipped on to the crossbar after some fine work by Elding on the right.
The resulting corner saw Barnet desperately clear the ball of their line when Jason Goodliffe steered his header goalwards.
At this stage it was all Stevenage, but that was to change. Barnet started the second half much the brighter and on 57 minutes they received their just rewards.
A fine snapshot by Grazioli crashed back off the Boro bar and Peter Beadle was on hand to crash the ball home from six yards.
Beadle himself almost made it two in two minutes when his turn and shot from the edge of the penalty area was well saved by Perez.
Stevenage flickered briefly with Jamie Cook's fine free-kick being well saved by Forde, but it was Barnet who came out with the three points when after 66 minutes a superb cross was met by the head of Ben Strevens.
His deft header was pushed on to the post by Perez and the rebound was poked home by former Stevenage hero Grazioli.
All in all Barnet thoroughly deserved the three points.
Barnet 3-3 Brentford
I remember this in the 2003/2004 season as a game that started a crap little LDV game that no one cared about! The Bees went 2-0 up early and then 3-2 down in extra time then passion start buliding Liam Hatch made his debut for the club and scored with the fans going mental! We lost the game on penaltys but how a game so small turned in to so much passion was amazing!
Brentford had to survive a major scare to beat Barnet on penalties after an amazing 3-3 draw at Underhill.
Guy Lopez fired Barnet into a sixth-minute lead before Soloman Henry's 34th minute penalty doubled their advantage after Joel Kitamirike had handled the ball.
Jay Tabb pulled a goal back for Brentford in the 52nd minute before they had Ben May dismissed for violent conduct.
Barnet were themselves reduced to ten men when Mark Cumberbatch was sent off for a professional foul - Stephen Hunt equalising from the resulting penalty with six minutes of normal time left.
Tabb then gave Brentford the lead in the eighth minute of extra time only for Liam Hatch to grab a shock equaliser for Martin Allen's side in the 104th minute.
But it was the league side who held their nerve in the shootout, with Hunt, Kevin O'Connor and Michael Dobson all on target to clinch a 3-1 success and a place in the draw for the second round.
