Barnet 5 Morecambe 1 - 4 Sep 2004 - Nationwide Conferecne

Five-star Barnet ran riot against ten-man Morecambe in a dramatic encounter Underhill.

The Bees started at place and Morecambe found themselves with backs against the wall. Giuliano Grazioli's header on four minutes was well saved by Adam Sollitt.

The Shrimps however could have stolen the lead when Chris Blackburn got on the end of Kieron Walmsley free-kick, but his header from only six yards went straight at Ricky Millard.

The visitors were then forced to defend for long periods with Grazioli and Liam Hatch proving to be a persistent threat in attack.

Grazioli thought he given the Bees the lead after 22 minutes when his overhead kick looped over the head of Sollitt, but an acrobatic goal-line clearance from Michael Twiss kept the scores level.

As the temperature on the pitch rose, so too did the tempers. Referee Yerby started to lose his common sense and issued yellow cards for fairly innocent challenges.

The Shrimps were then dealt a tougher task of maintaining a clean sheet when Walmsley received a second yellow card.

After the restart it was the visitors were quicker out of the blocks and despite being under pressure for much of the first half they actually took the lead.

Terry McFlynn's beautiful piece of individual skill put them one up in the 59th minute. He flicked the ball over Simon Clist's head before calmley slotting the ball past Millard much to the delight of the 64 travelling fans.

Morecambe's goal ignited the hosts.

Simon King scored his first goal for the club two minutes after McFlynn's strike.

Captain Ian Hendon then gave the Bees the lead from the penalty spot. His powerful drive was thumped straight down middle of the goal after Grazioli had won the kick after being hacked down by Sollitt.

Grazioli added two more for his fifth and sixth goals of the season. His first on 73 minutes was a diving header at the far post after Hatch supplied the pass.

His second three minutes later was clinical. He produced a neat flick and dinked the ball over Sollitt before tapping the ball into the empty net.

Substitute Nick Bailey completed the scoring in the 90th minute as the Morecambe defence finally ran out of steam.

Morecambe 1-3 Barnet - 24 Feb 2004 - Nationwide Confereence

Barnet won this battle of the play-off rivals comfortably.

The visitors, despite missing four regular players through suspension, always held the upper hand after a superb first-half performance against the shocking Shrimps.

The Bees took the lead in only the second minute with their first attack of the afternoon. Simon King delivered a dangerous low cross from the left-hand side into the Morecambe six-yard box and Joe Gamble raced in to sidefoot the ball home.

The visitors then extended their lead in their next attack. With 11 minutes played Ben Strevens took control of a loose ball on the edge of the Morecambe area and curled a delightful right-foot shot into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

Morecambe hit back with a brief revival. A Danny Carlton flick-on landed just behind the on-rushing Terry McFlynn and Dean Howell flashed a long-range effort wide of the left-hand post.

But Morecambe were soon smarting once again as Barnet added a third on 36 minutes. A cross from the right was headed against the underside of the crossbar and Simon Clist was on hand to bundle home the loose ball from close range.

Barnet at this stage were in total control and although Morecambe had the majority of the pressure in the second half, they never looked like losing their lead.

Morecambe gained some pride with a spirited second-half performance, but for all their effort created few clear cut chances.

Goalkeeper Ade Bankole did well to hold on to a Jim Bentley header and a Kieron Walmsley free-kick before saving well at the feet of Ryan Sugden.

Morecambe almost scored on 66 minutes when a Garry Thompson volley flashed inches wide on the right-hand post before Jim Harvey's side were given a glimmer of hope when Carlton slotted home his 14th league goal of the season.

Wayne Curtis then saw a header well gathered by Bankole, but the second-half surge from the home side was too little too late.

Barnet 2 Morecambe 1- 4 Oct 2003 - Nationwide Conference

Martin Allen celebrated winning September's manager of the month with a hard fought victory over fellow high-flyers Morecambe.

In a game which was book-ended by rain, two goals in the second half allowed Barnet to scrape a win against a lively Morecambe.

Allen was first to recognise that Morecambe had pushed his team hard at Underhill: "They will definitely be in the play-offs at the end of the season," he said. "We didn't function as well as I'd hoped and we weren't very fluid."He admitted however that although he was unhappy with Barnet's performance he was "very happy with the result" against a Morecambe team who had been undefeated in their last seven games.

The game was only 30 seconds old when a defensive mix-up allowed Ben Strevens the easiest of tap-ins to give Barnet the lead.

The away team were the tidier team of the two however and went close 15 minutes later when a Dave McKearney header flashed wide.

Morecambe's problems really began when captain Stewart Drummond hobbled off after 20 minutes and the away team started to lose their shape in defence.

Five minutes later Ian Hendon drove home a 16-yard volley from a Joe Gamble corner to double Barnet's lead and put them in control at half time.

After only seven minutes of the second half, Morecambe's afternoon came to an end when Wayne Curtis was sent off for a foul on Mark Williams.

The referee was left with little choice after Curtis had picked up an earlier yellow card in the first half.

Barnet began to exploit the extra space, but Morecambe moved up a gear pulling a goal back on 59 minutes when Gary Thompson slotted home from six yards.

It was not enough as Barnet held out to keep Allen happy.

Morecambe 1 Barnet 1 - 15 Mar 2003 - Nationwide Conference

Morecambe were denied their fifth successive victory by a brave display from a weakened Barnet.

The visitors, who had seven first team regulars missing, produced an excellent spoiling display to halt Morecambe's play-off charge. They even had the audacity to take an early lead.

There were just eight minutes on the clock when Wayne Purser latched on to a Keith Rowland through ball to score with a left-foot shot that sneaked into the bottom left hand corner of Craig Mawson's goal.

The Shrimps immediately raised the tempo with Robbie Talbot fluffing a shot on the right hand side before Barnet keeper Danny Naisbitt did well to race from his goal to block Adriano Rigoglioso's attempted lob.

But it wasn't long before Morecambe were back on level terms.

On 23 minutes the Shrimps broke quickly through midfield, Talbot teed up Lee Elam who raced past Greg Heald before stabbing the ball under the advancing Naisbitt.

A minute later it was almost 2-1 to the home side when Gary Thompson had a good opening on the right but pulled his shot wide of the goal.

After soaking up some pressure Barnet broke themselves with Frazer Toms racing through on goal only to see his left foot effort superbly saved by Mawson.

The second half provided few thrills or spills until the final stages. On 75 minutes Morecambe substitute Wayne Curtis thought he had scored his side's second with a good shot on the turn that curled into the net but an offside flag robbed him of his 15th goal of the season.

Morecambe continued to pile on the pressure with Naisbitt doing well to cut out a Talbot cross before producing the save of the game 11 minutes from time when he denied Elam a second.

The final moment saw Barnet almost shock the home side for a second time with Toms drilling an effort inches wide after being allowed space to run at the Morecambe defence.

But the last action was at the other end with Naisbitt making a good save from Jamie Murphy's injury time header.

Barnet 1 Morecambe 1 - 28 Sep 2002 - Nationwide Conference

Barnet were held to a 1-1 draw by Morecambe at Underhill.

The Bees were without their central defenders Mark Arber and Greg Heald and also their left-back Lee Flynn.

It was Morecambe who opened brightly forcing a corner in the first minute of the game but the Bees goalkeeper Lee Harrison was fouled.

After 15 minutes Lee Elam opened the scoring for the visitors. His right-foot shot from 20 yards was parried by Harrison and Elam was first to react and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's outstretched body.

For Barnet Junior Agogo had a right-foot shot blocked by Craig Mawson and moments later the same player had a header saved by the keeper.

At the other end Wayne Curtis' header was cleared off the line by Lee Pluck.

After 31 minutes John Doolan, captain for the day had a right-foot 35-yard drive that beat Morecambe keeper Mawson to make the score 1-1.

Towards the end of the half Wayne Purser had two left-foot shots saved by the visiting keeper.

In the second half Barnet forced only their second corner of the game when Mark Gower-s right-foot outswinger was hit on the volley by Ben Strevens but blocked by the defenders.

On the hour Stewart Drummond had a 30-yarder that hit the bar and moments later Curtis limped off the field and was replaced by Perry Taylor.

Morecambe seemed happy to settle for the point, while Barnet had further opportunities to get a winner when Agogo, Gower and Doolan all went close
