FC Halifax Town were formed in 2008 after Halifax Town went into liquidation owing over £2m. A new club was formed and they were placed in the Northern premier League Division One North for the start of the 2008/09 season.

In their first season, the club finished 8th, but the following season they were promoted as champions on 100 points. In 2010/11, in their first season in the Premier Division, the club won the championship finishing 19 points clear of second placed club, Colwyn Bay and amassing 98 points. They were promoted to the Conference North.

Halifax finished 3rd in their first season as a step 2 non-league club, qualifying for the play-offs, but lost 3-2 on aggregate to Gainsborough Trinity in the semi-finals. In 2012/13, they finished 5th, qualifying again for the play-offs and this time they won promotion defeating Brackley Town 1-0 in the final after putting out Guiseley in the semi-final.

Last season, in their first season in Conference National, Halifax finished 5th and qualified for the play-offs to attempt to win promotion to League Two but they lost to Cambridge United in the semi-final.

FC Halifax completed a league double over the Bees last season, winning 2-1 at the Shay, Curtis Weston scoring for Barnet and 4-0 at the Hive in April, putting paid to Barnet’s play-off hopes.

The two sides met at the Shay last month and Halifax grabbed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw after Curtis Weston had put Barnet ahead.
