Focus On: Nuneaton Town

Nuneaton Town, like FC Halifax, were formed in 2008 after the existing club, in this case, Nuneaton Borough, were liquidated. Nuneaton Town were demoted from the Conference North, where Nuneaton Borough had played in 2007/08, and placed in the Southern League Division One Midland Division.

In their first season, Nuneaton finished second in the table, earning a place in the play-offs which they won, defeating Chasetown1-0 in the final after beating Chesham United in the semi-final.

In 2009/10, in their first season in the Premier Division, they again finished 2nd and qualified for the play-offs, beating Brackley Town I the semi-final before defeating Chippenham Town 2-1 in the final and thus winning promotion to the Conference North.

In 2010/11, they made the play-offs for the third season running, this time in Conference North, despite finishing 6th as Eastwood Town, who finished 4th were not eligible to play in the play-offs due to their ground not being up to Conference National standards. However, Nuneaton lost to Telford united in the semi-final.

Nuneaton again made the play-offs in 2011/12, finishing 5th despite having a six point deduction for fielding an ineligible player. This time, Nuneaton won promotion to Conference National after beating Gainsborough Trinity 1-0 in the final, having defeated Guiseley in the semi-final.

In 2012/13, they finished in 15th place in their first season as a step one non-league club and last season, after flirting with a play-off place, they finished 13th.

Barnet's 1-1 draw early last season the first time that the Bees had met Nuneaton in their present form. Barnet won the game at Nuneaton 1-0 with a goal from Valinton Gjokaj, a screamer from outside the penalty area.

Early this season, two goals for Charlie MacDonald gave Barne all thee points with a 2-0 win at Nuneaton.

One player who has played for Barnet and Nuneaton Town is Greg Pearson who had a spell on loan at Barnet from West Ham in 2004 and scored 1 goal (at Gravesend) in 10 appearances. Last summer he joined Nuneaton Town from Grimsby.
