Hyde started life in 1919 as Hyde United, though there had been a Hyde FC as far back as 1885. After starting in the Lancashire and Cheshire Federation, they joined the Manchester League in 1920 and were champions five times in 10 years. In 1930, the club joined the Cheshire County League and in 1934 they won the Cheshire County League Challenge Cup.
After the end of the Second World War, the club thrived, winning the Cheshire Senior Cup in 1946 and in 1953 the League Cup. In 1954/55, they completed the League and Cup double and in 1956, retained the League title.
In 1968, the club joined the newly formed, Northern Premier League but because of travel costs, resigned in 1970, joining the Cheshire League and won the League Cup three years later. In 1982, they were elected to the Northern Premier League and they finished 8th in their first season. In 1986, the club won the Northern Premier League Cup, but in 2003, the club were relegated to the Northern Premier League Division One. However, they bounced straight back the following season and in 2005 they won the Northern Premier League title for the first time and were promoted to the Conference North.
In 2008, they would have been relegated back to the Northern Premier League, but for King’s Lynn being demoted because their ground was not up to standard. In 2009, the club nearly went bankrupt and had a winding up order reversed. In 2010, the club reverted to the name of Hyde FC, but they had a poor season only escaping relegation on the last day of the season.
In 2011/12, Hyde won the Conference North championship to gain promotion to the Conference National and the club finished 18th in their first season.
