Pubs from http://leyton.info/pubs/

Leyton has a fair selection of pubs, most of them large with more than one bar, and various entertainment. Here are a selection of the best:

Birkbeck Tavern - 45 Langthorne Road E11

This is a large free house next to St Patrick's Cemetery on Langthorne Road. Whatever your preferred tipple this is the pub for you, with three guest ales on handpull, plus Thatcher's cider, and the usual selection of lagers and bottles as well as an excellent selection of whisky. Notably they sell pickled eggs behind the bar! Selection of filled rolls available at lunchtime.

There is a large beer garden, a pool table (50p per game), darts and a jukebox. A function room is available for hire. The locals are friendly, although it has the reputation of being a "coppers' pub". Sunday is Quiz Night, which attracts quite a crowd.

Three Blackbirds - 640 High Road Leyton E10

Next to the Midland Road mainline station, this huge pub has two bars, three pool tables, jukebox, sports TV screen, arcade games, large garden and even a playground. Therefore, it attracts a youngish energetic crowd as well as the locals. Live bands play on Friday and Saturday nights when the bar is open until midnight. In summer, this is a great place to chill out in the garden (the tyre swings will happily take the weight of grown adults!).

Food is cheap and plentiful, with steaks, chips and burgers. It is advertised as served all day, although this can be variable. The beer? Apart from the lack of real ale, the selection is average and the prices are not too bad.

Northcote - 110 Grove Green Road E11
The Northcote is an East London Pub Co pub, with a reasonable selection of drinks as there will probably be at least one of whatever type you want, and a very local atmosphere.

If a smaller pub is your preference, this one fits the bill with two areas around a central bar. It shows sport on a big screen and there is a great vibe during international football matches, although if you don't like football... try another pub!

The Drum - 557-559 Lea Bridge Road E10

The Drum is a JD Wetherspoon pub, although one of the smallest and oldest in its chain, having been purchased in 1986. It still has a local feel with a lot of old men, comfy chairs and a fire, although it maintains the JDW principles, namely that there is a good selection of beers, food is served all day (and is pretty tasty) and that there is no music or entertainment. Don't be deceived - it definitely isn't quiet! A no-smoking area is also provided.

Coach & Horses - 391 High Road Leyton E10

The Coach & Horses is an old coach house, and is quite sizeable. It has pool and a jukebox, although the selection of drinks is average and excludes real ale.

During the day, it can be a peaceful place to have a drink and read the paper, however as it is the nearest pub to the Orient Football Club, drinkers spill out onto the pavement as the place fills up on matchdays.

Other pubs in the area include:

Oliver Twist - 90 Church Road E10

The Twist is a friendly local, with pool and a beer garden. It is next to the fire station and has been filmed in "London's Burning" while it was being shot at the station nearby.

King Harold - 116 High Road Leyton E11

The Harold is handy for Leyton tube station, and good for sports fans with a big screen, as well as a pool table.

House Bar - 475 High Road Leyton E10

Formerly the Lion and Key, the House Bar is reinventing itself as more of a venue than a pub. It has entertainment on many nights, including Ladies' Night with male dancers... you were warned!
