Spring beer festival was great, I cannot believe how much choice there was.
I hope I can make it to the autumn one too.

Excellent St George celebrations, good beer, excellent food and a brilliant atmosphere! A BIG thank you to both Mandy & Paul who have really turned the word celebrate into a different dimension. Can't wait for the beer festival next weekend, have heard it is 80+ beers good luck to them and their team, see you there.

Yes, it is still an excellent pub.
The beer is in good nick, about half is Milton but they do have some say on the ownership.
Regularly changing Cider (occasional Perry).
Bar staff are ALWAYS frioendly, even that miserable lanky Leicester laddie.

Summer time.... don't wear shorts at the weekend as you won't get in.

This pub is the tap for Oakham Ales brewery and is currently under threat of demolition to make way for a new shopping centre. Normally twelve real ales available including several fron the Oakham Ales range. The food is good value Thai. Late licence at the weekends with live music some weeks.

Quite touristy for historic reasons (DNA discovered there; popular with WWII pilots), but a nice old pub in any case. The courtyard gets very busy on Sunday days. The food is unexceptional, canteen standard stuff, but the beer is tastier.

great place, really impressed. you can smell the history. any local will know but for those just browsing it was apparently the boozer of choice for Francis Crick and James Watson, the chaps that mapped out the structure of DNA.

was there Saturday, and enjoyed some great ales and a great atmosphere. my evening was only partially ruined by an offensive londoner completely off his skull on whisky who started spitting at other drinkers. that is disgusting and unacceptable behaviour and, sad to say, he wasn't asked to leave by any of the bar staff.
that aside, a lovely pub that combines towny intelect with a more rustic feel.

A pub at its best! I turned up in Cambridge with a mate to see a gig at the Corn Exchange, we were several hours early and at a loose end and found ourselves feeling rather thirsty!! Having never been to Cambridge before we were unsure where to go, we wanted to find a good local! The first person I asked recommend the Eagle, what a stroke of luck! A really good, traditional, friendly pub with a really interesting history! After sinking several jars we headed to the gig, and managed to make it back for a couple more at last orders! If you’re at a loose end in Cambridge, you now have a solution!

Thai bar meals from the restaurant upstairs is another plus.

Beer went downhill for a while - problems with cooling kit, etc. Twelve new cooled hand pumps , lines, etc fitted and the beer is now in great nick again. Oriental restaurant upstairs and the food is available in the bar. Large beer garden. Twelve real ales normally available including several from Oakham Ales and ever changing guests. Live music starts at 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Entry charge after 11pm. Open until 1.30.

Great range of beers, even better prices (I'm from Surrey) all very drinkable in a wonderfully different location.

This is a bit of a student pub, however they play good music and the talent is the best i have seen anywhere. Takes a while to get served and can feel a bit like the invisible man when someone with breasts stands next to you, but all in all its good. Worth a visit.

lovely pub, great slection of home cooked food and guest ales. Comes Highly recommended

Great pub - food is spot on, one word of warning tho, arrive early if you are choosing specials off the board. These really are "special" and sell out very qiuckly - especially the fish dishes. One of Cambridge's best ranges of beers in the Kingston. It's worth the train fare coming here.
18 Jun 2005 20:34
Visited 13 Jun 05. Great selection of real ale. We went for Oakham Bishop's Farewell which was very good. The food was good, be prepared to wait, it is worth it. The staff were very polite and helpful, the impression created was that the customer was king.

An added bonus was the trio of blues musicians in the corner. The pub is populated by a mix of tourists (us), townsfolk and students, which worked well.
A great evening out.
