Bantams head for Underhill

This Saturday, Barnet entertain Bradford City, who were relegated last season from League One. It is not many years ago that the Bantams were a Premiership club, but financial problems, transfer embargoes and going into administration have created tremendous difficulties for the West Yorkshire club and after two seasons in the Premiership, their relegation in 2001 has been followed by further relegations in 2004 and 2007.

For the new season, City have installed former player and crowd favourite, Stuart McCall. The former Scotland international, who played in the 1990 World Cup, was previously assistant manager to Neil Warnock at Sheffield United.

City started, on the opening day, with a 1-1 draw at home to Macclesfield Town, Ndumbu-Nsungu scoring. They followed this with a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town, but gained their first win of the season last Saturday at home to Wrexham where goals from Eddie Johnson and substitute, Luke Medley, on his debut, gave the Bantams a 2-1 win. In the first round of the Carling Cup, a Kyle Nix goal was not enough as Wolves ran out 2-1 winners.

In goal, City have former Bolton youngster Donovan Ricketts, who has been a regular for the past 2 seasons. At right back is experienced former Hartlepool player, Darren Williams, while on the left side McCall has brought in Paul Heckingbottom on loan from Barnsley. The two centre backs have been the regular City partnership for the last 5 years; David Wetherall joined in 1999 for £1.4m from Leeds United, while Mark Bower came up from the youth team.

In midfield are Jamaican international, Omar Daly, former Swindon town player, Paul Evans, ex Manchester United youngster, Eddie Johnson and Kyle Nix who arrived from Sheffield United.

Up front are former Darlington striker, Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu, who is on loan from Gillingham, much travelled Barry Conlon who was released by Mansfield town at the end of last season and who scored for the Stags in their 2-1 home win over the Bees in April and there may be a place for youngster, Luke Medley who grabbed the winner last Saturday. Former Stoke City and Cardiff striker, Peter Thorne, who missed the start of the season through injury might make the bench.

Possible line up for Saturday: Ricketts; Williams, Wetherall, Bower, Heckingbottom; Daley, Johnson, Evans, Nix; Conlon, Ndumbu-Nsungu scoring.

Barnet will be hoping that they can claim a first win of the season after a disappointing start. Joe Devera will be available after suspension, but Ismail Yakubu, Ashley Carew and Sagi Burton should be fit to play. Michael Leary is out for up to two months and Neal Bishop and Svetland Angus will miss the game through suspension. New signings Kenny Gillet, Joe O'Cearuill, Paul smith and Josh Wright may make their first starts for Barnet.
