The Bees travel to Gresty Road tomorrow to meet Crewe Alexandra in a League Two match. Barnet’s goalless draw at home to promotion chasing Bury at the weekend gave the Bees eight points from the last six games, certainly an improvement in form over the last month. With Hereford winning at Cheltenham in midweek, the Bees have slipped down one place to 18th in the table but are still 13 points clear off of relegation.
The recent 2-0 away win at Port Vale has given rise to a little more optimism about Barnet’s away trips. Crewe’s away form has been much better than their home form where they have only won five times at Gresty Road this season and have lost on eight occasions. Crewe’s away form means that they are currently 15th in the table, five points ahead of the Bees.
Crewe’s recent form at home has been mixed. In their last home match they lost 1-0 at home to Chesterfield, but before that they beat Northampton Town 3-2. Only an injury time goal saved their blushes against Torquay United and won them a point in a 1-1 draw.
Barnet will be without Ismail Yakubu again so Clovis Kamdjo is expected to continue at centre back alongside Gary Breen. Paul Furlong could return after missing the last two matches with an eye injury picked up against Port Vale. Jake Hyde may miss out if Furlong plays.
Crewe should have leading goalscorer Calvin Zola back after recovering from a hamstring injury but captain, Mat Mitchel-King and Steve Schumacher are likely to miss out through injury.
Barnet will be looking to build on the recent (small) improvement in form and hope to reproduce the kind of form that saw the Bees win at Port Vale recently. Crewe have been shaky at home but Barnet’s away form has not been gone good, perhaps an understatement, and, bearing that in mind, I think Ian Hendon would be very happy if Barnet were to come back with a point.
Barnet mad is going to go straight down the middle, as they say, and go for a draw tomorrow, perhaps 1-1.
