MATCH PREVIEW: Morecambe

Last updated : 18 August 2009 By Jaybee
Tonight (Tuesday), Barnet take on Morecambe at Underhill in a League Two match. The shrimps have taken just one point from their first two matches, like the Bees and have also been knocked out of the Carling Cup at the first stage.

However, unlike the Bees, the Shrimps have had a couple of heavy defeats. On the first day of the season, though, they picked up appoint at home to Hereford with Craig Stanley and Stewart Drummond scoring for Morecambe in a 2-2 draw.

The following week proved pretty harrowing for the Morecambe fans with firstly Preston thumping them 5-1 at Deepdale in the Carling Cup, with just a very late Michael Twiss goal to show for it.

On the Saturday, they were surprisingly well beaten 5-2 at League Two newcomers, Burton Albion. The Morecambe defence had a disastrous day, but they looked quite good going forward with goals from their two loan signings from Huddersfield, Ian Craney and Phil Jevons.

Morecambe have made some experiences signings over the summer such as the Shrewsbury full back, Darren Moss and the two players from Huddersfield as well as centre back Laurence Wilson from Chester. The Shrimps have also signed midfield player, Emmanuel Panther on a season long loan from Exeter City.

Since coming up to the football league for the first time, Morecambe have done well finishing in 11th in 2007/08, their first ever league season and they repeated that last season.

This season, the Shrimps will be looking to improve on the last two seasons and perhaps make the play-offs but they will need to improve greatly on what has been a disappointing start. Realistically, in what is going to be a tough season in League Two, they will do well to get a third top half finish this season and may have to settle for life in the bottom half of the table, although they should have too much to be involved in a relegation struggle.

Barnet are still without last season's leading scorer, John O'Flynn, but Gary Breen might return. Midfield player, Mark Hughes has a late test on his injured shoulder to see if he is fit to play tonight.

Morecambe will be without Mark Duffy who was sent off in the defeat at Burton and is suspended. Wayne Curtis and Garry Hunter are also out with knocks and Fraser McLachlan is likely to miss most of the rest of the season after being injured in the opening day match at home to Hereford.

Barnet will be looking to win their first match of the season after not quite doing enough in the game at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday. With Morecambe having lost heavily in their last two matches, the Bees will be looking to finish off some of the many chances that they have been creating and will be very disappointed if they do not take all three points tonight. Barnet Mad has predicted a defeat and a draw for the last two Bees' matches and this is what transpired and we hope that our prediction tonight is as accurate as we feel that the Bees will win tonight's match 3-1.
