The Bees entertain Morecambe at Underhill today

This Saturday, the Bees entertain Morecambe, our old Nationwide Conference rivals, who are in their first ever season in the Football League, having won promotion from the Conference last season via the play-offs.

Barnet come into this match in good form, having picked up 7 out of 9 possible points from their three matches in the league so far this year. All three games have been away to sides in the top seven places. Wednesday's 2-1 win away at Hereford was Barnet's first ever win at Edgar Street. Morecambe, who are managed by Sammy McElroy, are currently 9th in the table, but have only taken 2 points from their last 4 matches. On Tuesday, they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to bottom club, Wrexham, having let go of a 2-0 lead.

Barnet did not sign any new players on the last day of the transfer window, but they also did not sell any players either. This means that Jason Puncheon is still a Barnet player despite all the transfer speculation surrounding him. Morecambe have signed Leeds United defender, Henry McStay on loan until the end of the season.

The two sides met on the opening day of the season at Christie Park, in what was Morecambe's first ever Football league match. The result was a 0-0 draw, which perhaps rather flattered the home side. Barnet have now met Morecambe on nine occasions and have only lost once, that match being the first ever meeting between the two sides, in 2001, when Morecambe won a Nationwide Conference match at Christie Park, 1-0. Since then Barnet have won 4 matches and four matches have been drawn. The last time the two sides met at Underhill was in 2004 and Barnet were top of the Conference and ran out 5-1 winners.

Barnet are still without Michael Leary who completes his three match suspension with the Morecambe game, while Sagi Burton may make the bench again following his long lay off. Albert Adomah, who scored on his debut at Hereford, is in line for his home debut. Rob Beckwith is still recovering from his dislocated fingers and is unlikely to figure, with Lee Harrison continuing in goal and Tim Trebes likely to be on the bench. Kieron St. Aimie could also be in line for a place following his move to Underhill from QPR, which was delayed because of problems with his registration.

Morecambe squad:

Goalkeepers:

Shwan Jalal is on loan from Peterborough United. A former Tottenham junior, he has also played for Woking and has played against Barnet in the conference for the Surrey club, in particular giving a superb performance to keep out the Bees in 2002 when the score was 0-0.

Scott Davies is a young goalkeeper who has come up from the youth academy and has only made one appearance as a substitute so far.

Steven Drench was signed from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2006 following a loan spell at the club. Was the fans' player of the year in the promotion season last year.

Defenders:

Adam Yates was signed from Leek Town in the summer of 2006, having played for Crewe before that. He was the players' player of the year last season.

David Artell signed from Chester City last summer. He was previously with Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Mansfield.

Danny Adams was signed on a free transfer from Huddersfield Town last February. Artell had previously played for Altrincham, Macclesfield and Stockport.

Jim Bentley is the club captain and signed in 2002 from Telford United, having started his career at Manchester City.

Michael Howard played over 250 times for Swansea City before moving to Christie Park in 2004. Before that he played for Tranmere Rovers.

Midfield:

Garry Thompson came up through the youth academy signing professional forms in 1999 and has been a regular in the side for the past 5 years. He has been capped by the England National Game XI.

Craig Stanley started his career at Walsall before moving to Hereford where he helped them to win promotion from the Conference in 2006. Joined Morecambe the same summer.

Garry Hunter came up through the youth academy and made his debut in August 2003.

Stewart Drummond came up through Morecambe's youth system and made his debut in 1995. He moved to Chester City in 2004 and subsequently to Shrewsbury Town before returning to Christie Park in the January transfer window.

Jamie Burns signed last January from Blackpool following a loan spell.

Strikers:

Michael Twiss was signed from Chester City in 2004. He previously played for Manchester United and Leigh RMI and on loan from Sheffield United.

Carl Baker joined in the summer from Southport to become the club's record signing.

Wayne Curtis was signed in 1998 from Holker Old Boys and made his debut for Morecambe in April of that year.

Matty Blinkhorn was signed from Blackpool last summer following a one month loan spell at the club. He played at Bury last season as well, on loan.

Jon Newby was signed from Bury in the summer on a free transfer. He has previously played for Huddersfield, Wrexham and Southport. Scored Morecambe's first ever Football League goal against Wrexham last August.
