Some may think we have won the title Carlisle United can only get 81 points which the Bees already have. The Bees also have a much better goal difference. But i wont say we are up until we get that point on Saturday against Halifax Town that lost 2-1 to Exeter City. Carlisle as you know drew with Hereford United 0-0.
Match report: |
Promotion contenders Hereford United and Carlisle United fought out the draw at Edgar Street which virtually hands the Conference title to Barnet. With Carlisle on a run of six successive victories and Hereford having won their last three, something had to give but neither side will be too unhappy with a point which keeps their play-off aspirations high. Neither side was able to make much impact in a tight first half although Hereford began the brighter. An early Rob Purdie shot was deflected into the arms of Matt Glennon who grabbed a 25-yard free-kick from the same player minutes later. At the other end, Chris Lumsdon drove a 35-yard free-kick well wide of the mark before Hereford resumed the attack with Craig Stanley's long-range shot fumbled wide by Glennon for a corner. Daryl Taylor showed good skill and pace to get the by-line, forcing Glennon to dive low to grasp his shot. And Lee Mills also came close to breaking the deadlock when he powered his way through, but chipped a shot high and wide of the goal. After the break, Hereford continued to have the lion's share of the attacking and Stanley and Adam Stansfield drove powerful shots just wide of the target as the Bulls went after the win. But although the Bulls had much the better of possession, Carlisle might have sneaked the win right at the end when Karl Hawley hit the woodwork and substitute Glenn Murray drove a shot wide of a gaping goal. "We have worked our socks off throughout the side and come away with what could prove to be a very important point," said Cumbrians boss Paul Simpson. I'm sure there's some champagne in fridge for if we can get that crucial point against Halifax Town to take us up to the Football League.
