Bees travel this Saturday to Christie Park

This Saturday, Barnet travel to Cumbria to play newly promoted Morecambe who won the Nationwide Conference play off final in May, beating Exeter City 2-1 with goals from Danny Carlton and Garry Thompson.

This is Morecambe's first season in the league and so they will be looking to at least consolidate. Last season Morecambe won 11 of their homes games but were beaten on 5 occasions, so it shows it can be done!! Morecambe have been there or thereabouts for a number of years and few will begrudge them their success.

Morecambe play at Christie Park and are managed by former Manchester United star, Sammy McIlroy, who was previously manager at Macclesfield Town so he knows League 2 football pretty well. There are a number of Morecambe players that Bees fans might remember from their days in the Conference, though, arguably, Morecambe's two brightest stars have departed in the summer; striker Danny Carlton to Carlisle and midfielder, Chris Blackburn to Swindon Town.

However, there are still a number of familiar faces including: hugely influential captain, Jim Bentley, signed from Telford United, 5 years ago; former Chester and Leigh RMI striker Michael Twiss; midfield player Garry Thompson a scorer in the play off final and striker Wayne Curtis who scored twice in the play off semi final against York City but missed a penalty in the final. Former Leigh RMI striker, David McNiven left this week to move to Halifax Town.

The Shrimps have strengthened their squad with a few additions in the summer. Central defender, David Artell has arrived from Chester City, where he had been a regular for the last two seasons, while former Carlisle defender Simon Grand and midfield player Carl Baker and striker Jon Newby have arrived from Southport.

Possible team for Saturday; Joe Lewis; Adam Yates, David Artell, Jim Bentley, Danny Adams; Garry Hunter, Neil Sorvell, Craig Stanley, Carl Baker; Wayne Curtis, Michael Twiss.
