Seaside draw for Barnet in the Carling Cup

Following the draw for the 1^st round of the Carling Cup, which was made this morning, Barnet are away at Brighton. The ties are due to be played in the week commencing 11^th August.

The two sides met last season in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 1^st round at the Withdean Stadium, where the Bees went down 2-1, Adam Birchall scoring the Barnet goal.

Barnet and Brighton have met each other 16 times previously. 12 of these have been league matches, there have been 3 meetings in the FA Cup and 1 in the JPT. Barnet have won 4, Brighton 9 and 3 have been drawn.

Possibly the most well known of these meetings was back in 1981-82, when Barnet were an Alliance Premier League side and Brighton were in the First Division ( now the Premiership). The two sides met in the 3^rd round of the FA Cup at Underhill and drew 0-0. Gary Phillips, in the Barnet goal, gave an outstanding performance and the Bees had chances to win. In the replay, Brighton won 3-1. Gary Sargent scored the Barnet goal.
