Following the draw for the 1st round of the Carling Cup, which was made this morning, Barnet are away at Brighton. The ties are due to be played in the week commencing 11th August.

The two sides met last season in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 1st round at the Withdean Stadium, where the Bees went down 2-1, Adam Birchall scoring the Barnet goal.

Barnet and Brighton have met each other 16 times previously. 12 of these have been league matches, there have been 3 meetings in the FA Cup and 1 in the JPT. Barnet have won 4, Brighton 9 and 3 have been drawn.

Possibly the most well known of these meetings was back in 1981-82, when Barnet were an Alliance Premier League side and Brighton were in the First Division ( now the Premiership). The two sides met in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at Underhill and drew 0-0. Gary Phillips, in the Barnet goal, gave an outstanding performance and the Bees had chances to win. In the replay, Brighton won 3-1. Gary Sargent scored the Barnet goal.
