Richard Walker joined the Shrews from Bristol Rovers, initially on loan, in July 2008. He has scored 62 goals in over 150 appearances for Rovers and helped them win promotion in 2007 to League One. He started his career at Aston Villa and had loan spells at Cambridge United, Wycombe and Blackpool before joining Blackpool in 2001 for £50,000. He scored 15 goals in just over two years at Bloomfield Road as well as playing for Northampton and Oxford United on loan. Grant Holt joined Shrewsbury in June 2008 for a club record £170,000 from Nottm Forest, where he had helped the club win promotion to the Championship in 2007/08. He made over 100 appearances for Forest, scoring 24 goals after joining them in 2006 for £300,000 from Rochdale. He began his career at Workington and then played for Halifax, Barrow and Sheffield Wednesday before joining Rochdale in 2004. He scored 42 goals in 2 years at Spotland.
