Barnet and Hereford played out an utterly forgettable goalless draw at Underhill this afternoon in awful conditions where the high winds controlled the game much better than either of the teams.
The Bees came into the match unbeaten at home in the league, but Hereford were on a good run too. Barnet manager, Ian Hendon was forced to make one change, Clovis Kamdjo coming in for the injured Gary Breen at centre back. Sixteen year old midfield player, Mauro Vilhete was named amongst the substitutes.
Barnet failed to adjust to the conditions and though they had a couple of half chances in the first half they played poorly. Hereford played the ball much more on the floor and their passing was far more accurate as the home side continually gave away possession. However, most of Hereford’s efforts were from long distance and Jake Cole was not unduly bothered.
In the second half, Hereford took the game to Barnet and can consider themselves unlucky not to have won. They caused Jake Cole more problems that in the first half, though Cole did not have any outstanding saves to make and had a couple of reasonable penalty appeals turned down by the referee. The Bulls did have the ball in the back of the net but, to the obvious relief of the home fans, it was disallowed for offside. In the end, it was fortunate for the Bees that Hereford for all their superior play could not finish.
Barnet remain 8th in the table, just a point outside the play-off positions, while Hereford climb one place to 16th. Barnet Mad, Bees’ Man of the Match: Mark Hughes.
