Barnet went down to their second home defeat of the season in somewhat controversial style, losing 1-0 to improving Wrexham. Barnet were the stronger team in the first half and Luisma Villa had two good chances to score, while Curtis Weston also tested the goalkeeper wth a long range shot but the Bees just couldn’t make the breakthrough.
HT: Barnet 0 Wrexham
Barnet so nearly took the lead early on after the restart when a superb piece of trickery on the right by Luisma followed by an excellent shot was met by the head of John Akinde but his header was too close to the keeper who saved it fairly comfortably. Akinde should have scored and the Bees were made to pay on 49 minutes when Robbie Evans put the Welsh side ahead with a superb shot from outside the penalty area, but the Barnet players felt that there was a Wrexham handball n the run up to the goal, most of the team remonstrating to the referee but to no avail.
After going behind, Barnet’s play deteriorated and Allen’s substitutions didn’t really pay off. It seemed strange taking off Elliott Johnson who had been having a fine game and Luisma Villa and the team lost it’s shape completely. The second half performance was very poor and Wrexham were much the better team after the interval. However, results elsewhere meant that Barnet remained top by a point. Next up, Altrincham at home on Saturday.
