Hereford United claimed their first win of the season at Underhill, though they did so in controversial circumstances with Barnet reduced to ten men after just 19 minutes.
A lively start for the Bees was rewarded when they took the lead in the 13thminute through a stunning Jason Puncheon strike, as he flashed the ball home past Wayne Brown.
However, their joy was short-lived as just six minutes later, Joe Devera was harshly given his marching orders after pulling back Trevor Benjamin.
Despite being worthy of a yellow card, there were enough covering defenders around him, referee Gavin Ward, after consultation with his linesman brandished the red card.
Hereford pushed forward with the man advantage and having seen Theo Robinson's header tipped over the bar by Lee Harrison in the home goal, pulled level on the stroke of half-time, though was once more it came about via another controversial decision.
This time, as the ball was played in to the box, the referee spotted a handball and to the dismay of the majority in the ground pointed to the spot. Benjamin stepped up and fired the spot-kick into the bottom corner.
Barnet showed plenty of effort after the break despite their numerical disadvantage with Anthony Thomas in particular looking threatening, one piece of close skill resulting in a shot just past the far post.
However, as the half wore on, the visitors looked to up the tempo and pressure, and began creating several chances. They claimed what would prove to be the winner in the 67th minute when Robinson had the simple task of tapping the ball in to the open net, following in Benjamin's shot which had struck the post.
Barnet twice had the ball in the back of the Hereford net thereafter, though on each occasion saw the referee's whistle deny them the goal, which only further enraged the Bees faithful to the man in the middle.
