Barnet met old rivals, Stevenage in their 2nd pre-season friendly tonight at The Hive and defeated their League Two opponents, 1-0, the only goal of the game coming from Charlie MacDonald after 29 minutes, who was pit through on goal by Elliott Johnson, who was playing left wing tonight. The two new faces on the subs bench were in fact both ex Bees; former West Ham goalkeeper, Sam Cowler who left Barnet for Bishops Stortford and former Stevenage centre back, Bondz N’Gala who had a spell on loan with the Bees a couple of years ago before joining Portsmouth.

Charlie MacDonald, John Akinde, Curtis Weston and Jack Saville all had further chances for the Bees and Elliott Johnson gave an assured performance in his unaccustomed role on the left hand side of midfield. Just after the hour mark, Martin Allen brought on 10 substitutes with only David Stephens playing both halves. Luisma Villa, Ahmed Abdulla and George Sykes all came close, Abdulla hitting the underside of the crossbar. Barnet deserved their 1-0 win and are at home to last season’s Conference champions, Luton Town on Sunday.
