Barnet maintained their good form in the run in to the end of the season with a sparkling performance at home to AFC Halifax which all but ended the Yorkshire club's slender play-off hopes. It took Barnet's unbeaten run to seven matches and kept them at the top of the Conference table with just two games remaining. The 3-0 win gave the Bees 88 points from 44 matches, one point above Bristol Rovers who kept up the pressure with a 2-0 home win over Southport. Third placed, Grimsby lost 1-0 at home to Wrexham which all but finished their hopes of automatic promotion as they are now 6 points adrift of the Bees with a greatly inferior goal difference. Macclesfield's defeat at FGR meant that they were now in great danger of missing out on the play-offs as Eastleigh were now just a point behind the Silkmen with a game in hand.
Barnet went ahead as early as the second minute when an Elliott Johnson cross was only cleared as far as Andy Yiadom whose blocked shot fell to Mauro Vilhete who mishit his shot and which, kindly for the home side, spun into the top right hand corner of the net.
The Bees were in total control and playing some sparkling football and Conor Clifford was desperately unlucky when his terrific shot from long distance crashed against the bar. Barnet went 2-0 up just before half time when Halifax defender, Scott McManus played a quite dreadful back pass to the feet of John AKINDE who had the simple task of slipping the ball through the goalkeeper's legs and into the net to give Barnet a two goal cushion as they went in at half time. It was Akinde's 31st goal of the season.
Barnet went 3-0 up just after the hour and it all stemmed from a wonderful run by Andy Yiadom whose run into the penalty area took him past three defenders before slipping the ball to Curtis WESTON to slide home to wrap up the three points for the Bees. It was the Barnet skipper's fifth goal in seven games. In all honesty, Barnet had the chances to have won by six or seven in what was probably their best performance at the Hive all season.
