Barnet beat Grimsby Town today for the first time at Underhill as the home side built on Tuesday's win over Dagenham & Redbridge. The Bees were unchanged from the side that won 2-0 at Underhill over the Daggers and were looking to push back into the play-off positions with a win over struggling Grimsby Town.

The Mariners used to be the Bees' hoodoo side, but Barnet took four points from them in the league last season, but at the start of today's match had never won a league match against Grimsby at Underhill.

The match started scrappily with Grimsby forcing a couple of corners, but not testing Jake Cole. Barnet's first chance cam following a long free kick by Cole which fell to Yannick Bolasie whose shot was saved at the near post by Grimsby keeper, Nick Colgan.

Bolasie had an excellent game against Dagenham and he carried on today in a similar vein and it was no surprise that he was behind the opening goal for the Bees after just 10 minutes. Mark Hughes put Bolasie through and he ran into the penalty area beating Ryan Bennett who stuck out a leg and brought the Bees winger down, the referee pointing to the spot. John O'FLYNN sent his shot straight down the middle of the goal with Colgan diving to his right and the Bees were 1-0 up.

Five minutes later, Bolasie was again causing the Mariners trouble and he was brought down just outside the penalty area. John O'Flynn's poor free kick hit the wall and bounced back to Albert ADOMAH whose lofted shot got a deflection and flew into the back of the net with Colgan stranded to make it 2-0.

Only a couple of minutes later it was nearly 3-0. Bolasie again the man in the thick of the action, playing a neat one two and then breaking clear through the defence but Colgan did well and blocked his shot and the ball was cleared.

The visitors were feeding on scraps at this point but following a hurriedly taken free kick by O'Flynn, Grimsby caught barnet on the break and Gary Breen had to be at his best to stop Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro. The Frenchman was impressing with his trickery, but was getting very little support from a weak looking midfield.

On 23 minutes, former Bee, Michael Leary, came on for defender, Paul Linwood with Bennett moving to the back. A good break by O'Flynn created a chance but the ball was cleared. Grimsby's Joe Widdowson was then booked for a foul on Adomah. Paul furlong then broke through but a fine tackle by Bennett rescued the visitors.

Just before half time the referee got it all wrong, booking Bennett for a foul on O'Flynn, when the offender was actually Bradley Wood.

Grimsby had a spell of pressure at the beginning of the second half and the Bees' defence did well to clear from an overhead kick by Akpa Akpro. Leary then headed wide from a corner before the Mariners made their two last substitutions, the experienced Barry Conlon replacing Peter Bore and Danny North, who has scored several times against the Bees in the past, replacing Adam Proudlock.

An Albert Adomah cross into the penalty area was almost headed into his own goal by one of the Grimsby defenders before Yannick Bolasie made it 3-0 with a stunning goal just past the hour. Cutting inside, he unleashed a terrific shot from what must have been 30 yards into the bottom right hand corner for what must be a real contender for goal of the season.

After that the game drifted somewhat with Barnet bringing on Jake Hyde, Albert Jarrett and Clovis Kamdjo for Micah Hyde, Adomah and O'Flynn. However, there was still time for Grimsby's Barry Conlon to get himself sent off less than five minutes before the end for elbowing Kenny Gillet in the face. All in all, the end of a miserable day for the visitors. For Barnet though, it was six points in the week and another clean sheet that has taken them back up to 4th level on points now with Dagenham & Redbridge. Grimsby have slipped to 22nd, just two points above Torquay. In reality, an easy win for the Bees.
