Barnet defeated Blue Square South Boreham Wood yesterday 3-2 at Meadow Park but it was a close thing and the Bees had to come from behind twice. The match was the last scheduled pre-season friendly before the Carling Cup trip to Birmingham on the 14th.
Mark Robson introduced a new trialist at right back, Jose and gave another chance to striker, Danny Uchechi who played against Charlton and former Brentford and Gillingham winger, Curtis Weston who played at Burnham. Both started on the bench alongside central defender, George McCluskey, a member of last season’s youth team.
The home side started the game brighter than Barnet and deservedly took the lead when defender, Charlie O’Loughlin, a former Port Vale player, headed home past Liam O’Brien on 15 minutes.
Barnet gradually came more into the game and on 45 minutes, Clovis KAMDJO equalised from close range. Just on half time though, Boreham Wood regained the lead when former St Albans striker, Inih Effiong
However, within two minutes of the re-start, the Bees were level when Andy YIADOM cut in from the wing and shot past Russell, the Boreham Wood keeper to level the scores.
Just past the hour, YIADOM made it 3-1 after collecting a pass from Olly Lee and beating three defenders before firing home past Russell. After Yiadom’s second goal, Danny Uchechi replaced Jose with Yiadom moving to right back.
Barnet came close to increasing their lead with Jon Nurse and Ricky Holmes coming close, while Jake Hyde, Curtis Weston and George McCluskey getting late run outs as s substitutes.
