Canvey Island 1-3 Barnet - Match Report

Last updated : 23 July 2005 By Bm91
Barnet started with the same line-up as they did against St. Albans with trialist, Morgaro Gomis again included. Canvey took the game to Barnet at the start with Boylan going close but his shot going over the top.

Barnet were finding it difficult to create a great deal and went one-down to a somewhat dubious penalty awarded for an alleged push. Boylan put the penalty comfortably away, Canvey almost went 2-0 up soon after with a shot that went just past the post. Only Gomis was really playing well in midfield at this point and Bees best chance fell to Yakubu who missed an easy header from a Graham corner.

With about 10 minutes of the first half remaining, a fine ball from Gomis put Bailey away and he crossed for Grazioli to score with a routine tap-in

Second Half
Barnet started the second half brightly and went 2-1 up within the first 5 minutes. A firmly hit Bailey Cross shot swirled wickedly inside the far post to beat Potter.

Canveys performance had now deteriorated and this was not helped by a lot of substitutions. Barnet too made changes with Flitney on for Tynan,Gross for King. Barnet went 3-1 up with a scrappy goal. A Bailey mishit shot was played on by Strevens back to Bailey who bundled it into the far corner from a suspiciously offside position. Most of the rest of the game was scrappy with numerous changes from both and Barnet run out comfortable 3-1 winners.
