Fairclough fumes about Puncheon sending off

Barnet boss, Paul Fairclough was fuming after the Peterborough match in midweek. He told the Barnet Times, "Give me 11 players and we will compete with anyone in this league", referring to the red carding of Jason puncheon in that match. Puncheon will now miss the next three matches, including tomorrow's match at Notts County. Fairclough added that, "Ten red cards is absolutely shocking. In ten games this season, we have had to compete with ten players. It's quite saddening. You can't give top teams a player start and expect to win. I'm sick and tired of having to play teams with ten men".

Fairclough was still confident that the Bees could end the season strongly. "If we keep 11 players on the pitch we are going to win a lot of games before the end of the season. But we have to stop giving the opposition a head start. I certainly want to finish with more points than last season."

Reflecting on the Peterborough game, Fairclough said that, "I could not have asked any more from the ten. They were heartbroken in the dressing room afterwards. I really feel for the players. Many sides would have folded against a team like Peterborough, but we took them all the way. My goalkeeper has not had a save to make in open play. We've conceded goals from free-kicks. I believe Peterborough are the best side in the league, but we matched them with ten men". Fairclough summed the match up by saying that, "we shot ourselves in the foot again."

The Barnet boss was, naturally, happier about last Saturday's 4-1 win over Shrewsbury. Commenting on the Shrews going 1-0 up, he said that, "There's resilience in the team. The players refused to accept defeat and came back strongly. We showed desire and commitment. We've been creating chances in most games. This time we took them". Talking about two-goal, Cliff Akurang, Fairclough said that, "It's taken him a while to get off the mark, but he took his goals very well". He said that Albert adomah's two goals were "terrific".
