Barnet made just one change to the side that so nearly won against Cambridge United the previous Saturday with Andy Yiadom moving back to right back to replace Anthony Acheampong and George Sykes making his first start for the Bees after impressing as a substitute against the league leaders.
Barnet played some nice, attractive football but did not look enough like scoring and after a goalless first half, Grimsby took the lead just after the hour mark when Ross Hannah hit a volley into the top corner of the net. Liam Hearn added a second with less than 10 minutes left and despite a stunning goal from Bees’ defender, David STEPHENS three minutes later, the home side ran out 2-1 winners. Stephens hit a brilliant shot on the volley right into the top corner of the net from all of 25 yards, but, sadly, it wasn’t enough. The defeat saw the Bees slip to 11th in the table.
