Barnet have signed 6ft 2” striker, Charlie Taylor from Ryman League Premier club, Sutton United. The last player that the Bees signed from Sutton was Nicky Bailey, one of the most successful signings in the club’s recent history.
Taylor, who is 24 years of age, is known to Barnet manager, Mark Stimson, from his days as a youngster at Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. Taylor has also played for non-league clubs, Hornchurch, Grays and Fisher. Taylor scored 20 goals for Sutton last season and played for Croydon Athletic during pre-season and was alleged by some sources to have joined the South London club. However, Barnet, the Football Association and Sutton United’s own website confirm that the player was registered with Sutton who received a small fee, a sell on clause and the promise of a visit by Barnet for a pre-season friendly next summer. Taylor also had a trial at Bristol City during the summer.
Taylor’s arrival at Underhill came amidst reports, fuelled by a Daily Mirror article, that former MK Dons and Charlton striker, Izale McLeod had joined the club. However, as at this point no confirmation can be made of this, though it has been intimated by the club that Mark Stimson may add two players to the squad before the end of the transfer window.
