Carl Fletcher signs for Barnet

Barnet today signed Carl Fletcher, who has been training with the Bees since pre season. Fletcher is available to play against Hereford United at Edgar Street tomorrow.

Fletcher is a Welsh international and has 36 caps for his country. He scored for wales in a 3-0 win over Norway in 2008.

Fletcher began his career at Bournemouth and made 224 appearances for the Cherries and scored 23 goals including two in the 2003 play off final in which Bournemouth beat LincolnCity 5-2.

In 2004, Fletcher moved to West Ham United for £275,000 and played in the 2006 FA Cup Final against Liverpool. While at West Ham he went on loan to Watford. The FA Cup Final appearance was his last game for the Hammers having made 53 appearances for the club and scoring 3 goals.

Fletcher left west Ham for CrystalPalace for £400,000 and was immediately made captain. He made 74 appearances for the Eagles and scored 4 goals. In 2008, he went on loan to NottinghamForest and the following year to Plymouth Argyle where he made 13 appearances and following his release in the summer of 2009 by Palace, he signed a contract with Plymouth. He made a further 94 appearances, scoring 8 goals for the pilgrims before retiring as a player after having been appointed caretaker manager in September 2011 and then full time manager the following month. I January of this year he was sacked as manager by Plymouth. Fletcher, aged 33, has now resumed his playing career having got over a rather injury hit period.
