Young Barnet striker, George Sykes has signed for Dartford. Sykes failed to establish himself in the Bees' first team and after impressing in youth team football and didn't make a first team appearnce at all last season.
Sykes had a number of loan spells while at Barnet, playing for Bishops Stortford, Farnborough, St Albans City and, more recently, Canvey Island. He will play in the Conference South next season with the Darts.
Sykes made his first team debut for the Bees in a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol Rovers in August 2012 in a League Two match and also appeared that season as a substitute in the way game at Aldershot.
In 2013/14, Sykes did have a small run in the first team making his full club debut away at Grimsby Town in November 2013, having come on as a substitute in the home game with Cambridge United. In that match, Sykes scored what would have been a late winner, but the goal was ruled out as the officials could not be sure the ball had crossed the line due to the letting off of a smoke flare behind the goal at the Barnet end, the flare costing the Bees two points.
Sykes then played in both the next two league matches, away at and at home to, ironically, Dartford and also played in the FA Trophy game at Hayes & Yeading where he scored the only goal of the game. It was the only first team goal that Sykes scored for the club. The 2-0 home win over the Darts in December 2013 proved to be Sykes' last appearance for the club.
Barnet Mad wishes George all the best for the future.
