Former Barnet full back, Sam Stockley has announced his retirement from football because of an eye injury. Stockley has been playing for Port Vale, Barnet's visitors in two weeks time. Stockley made nearly 500 appearnces in his career which spanned 16 years and he played for Southampton, Oxford United, Colchester United, Blackpool and Wycombe as well as Port Vale and Barnet.

Stockley joined Barnet in 1996 and helped the club reach the play-offs in 1998 and 2000. However, after the club were relegated to the Conference in 2001, Stockley joined Oxford United for £150,000. Sammy made over 200 first team appearances for the Bees, scoring twice and I'm sure all barnet fans wish him the best of luck in the future
