Quite a number of players have played for both Barnet and Southend United. Two current members of the Southend squad are former Bees. Louis Soares joined Barnet in 2005 from Bristol Rovers and made 20 league appearances for the Bees, scoring one goal before moving to Aldershot in 2006. He joined Southend last summer and scored in their 3-1 win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match at Underhill earlier this season. Lee sawyer joined Barnet from Chelsea last season having had a loan spell at Southend just before. He made 7 league appearances for the Bees scoring one goal before being released. He joined Southend recently from Woking.
Paul Furlong joined the Bees on loan from Southend in 2009 and scored 9 goals in 21 league appearances before signing a one year contract with Barnet. Last season he scored 5 goals from 38 league appearances for the Bees. He joined Kettering as player-coach in the summer. Furlong made just 3 league appearances for Southend after joining them from Luton Town in 2008.
Tommy Black joined Barnet from Southend last season and made 5 league appearances for the Bees before being released. He joined Southend from Crystal Palace in 2007 and made 39 league appearances scoring twice.
Nicky Nicolau joined Barnet from Swindon in 2006 and made 81 league appearances for the Bees, scoring 4 goals before being released in the summer of 2009. He joined Southend from Arsenal in 2004 after first having played for the Shrimpers on loan. He made 32 league appearances for Southend, scoring 1 goal. He currently plays for Borehamwood.
Nicky Bailey joined Barnet from Sutton United in 2004 and was part of the Conference Championship winning side of 2005. He was named BFCSA player of the year in 2006 and made 125 league appearances, scoring 17 goals before joining Southend in 2007 for £175,000. He made 47 league appearances, scoring 10 goals for Southend and being voted player of the year for season 2007/08. He joined Charlton in 2008 and currently plays for Middlesbrough.
Danny Maddix joined Barnet from Sheffield Wednesday in 2003 and made 33 league appearances for the Bees before moving to Grays in 2004. He had a short loan spell with Southend in 1986/87 while at Tottenham.
Peter Beadle joined Barnet from Brentford in 2003 and scored 5 goals from 15 league and FA Cup appearances for the Bees before leaving to join Team Bath as player coach. He had a short spell on loan at Southend in 1994 while at Tottenham.
Tony Scully played one game for Barnet in December 2004. He had a loan spell with Southend in 2002/03 while at Cambridge United.
Guy Butters had a short spell at Barnet in 2003 while on loan from Brighton, making 7 Conference appearances for the Bees. He had a loan spell with Southend in 1990 while at Tottenham.
Ken Charlery joined Barnet from Stockport for £80,000 in 1997 and was part of the sides that made the Division Three play-offs in 1998 and 2000. He joined Southend’ linking up again with former Barnet manager, Barry Fry, in 1993 for £350,000 and made over 50 first team appearances before joining Fry at Birmingham in 1994.
Mick Bodley joined Barnet from Southend in 1989 from Northampton and helped the Bees win the Conference in 1991 and promotion to Division Two in 1993, making 69 league appearances for barnet, scoring 3 goals, before linking up with Barry Fry at Southend in 1993. He made over 70 first team appearances at Southend before joining Peterborough in 1996. Bodley scored an own goal in Peterborough’s famous 9-1 win at Underhill in 1998.
Roger Willis joined Barnet from Grimsby Town in 1990 for £10,000. He helped Barnet win the Conference in 1991 and made 44 league appearances for the Bees, scoring 13 goals before joining Watford in 1992 for £175,000. He joined Southend in 1994 for £100,000 from Birmingham and made over 30 first team appearnces before moving to Peterborough in 1996.
Derek Payne joined Barnet from Hates for £12,000 in 1991 and helped the Bees win promotion to Division Two in 1993, making 51 league appearances, scoring 6 goals before linking up with Barry Fry at Southend in 1993. He made over 40 first team appearances for Southend before joining Watford in 1994.
Jonathan Hunt came up through the ranks at Underhill and helped Barnet win promotion to Division Two in 1993, making 33 league appearances before linking up with Barry Fry at Southend in 1993. He made over 60 first team appearances for Southend before linking up again with Fry at Birmingham in 1994 for £500,000.
