Barnet 3-1 Forest Green

A Richard Graham inspired Barnet proved too much for Forest Green at Underhill. Graham was instrumental in getting his side back on track, with an eyecatching performance. Rovers had taken the lead in 29th minute through Charlie Griffin, after Darren Davies' cross was missed by the Bees' defence and Griffin stabbed home for the lead.
Barnet responded well and depite saturating Rovers half with wave after wave of attacks, went in one nil down at the break.
Two minutes after the restart, Graham's cross from the left fell into the path of Liam Hatch who should have done better with the header. Three mintues later, from a Ben Strevens cross, a thunder bolt from Graham drew the Bees level.
Rovers' muscular advantage was no match for some slick Bees passing. Barnet took the leader in the 58th mintue through classy Giuliano Grazioli. Graham fed Grazioli who rounded Rovers' keeper Steven Perrin, striking into the unguarded net .
It was all Barnet now, the attack teasing the Rovers defence, with Liam Hatch stretching his legs in the 66th mintue, his powerful shot whistling over the bar. Ex-Norwich City man Dean Sinclair had an inpressive debut, showing pace and power, and his driven shot late on was too much for Perrin who collected the ball at the second attempt.
The Bees total possession was rewarded in the 77th minute when Graham put Grazioli in on goal, he made no mistake for his second, and Barnet's third goal.

Nationwide Conference, Tuesday 17th August 2004 @ 19:45; Cherrywood Road
Farnborough Town 0-0 Barnet

Farnborough Town secured their first point of the Conference season in an emotional night at Cherrywood Road.
Dean Austin's men battled hard against the buzzing Bees and might have even nicked all three points late on had captain Gary Holloway not screwed his shot wide when in a good position.
This was an emotional night for the home supporters who are currently protesting over the proposed takeover of the club.
A large percentage of the 1,069 crowd, including the large Barnet contingent, staged a sit-in vigil on the pitch to demonstrate over the new ownership of Ron Higgins and Tony Turberville.
With this going on, anything on the pitch was a bonus for Boro and the fans, for the first time in a long summer went home happy.
Barnet started the stronger however and had Boro on the ropes early on with giant striker Liam Hatch finding himself with no fewer than three aerial opportunities, two of which missed the target, the third bravely gathered by keeper Craig Holloway.
Although Boro showed spirit, they were second best to Barnet who were quicker and sharper to the chase.
That said however, although they created chances, there wasn't much to worry the somewhat makeshift Boro backline.
Instead, the best chance of the half came at the other end when Ali Chaaban released Tony Taggart, who shot into the body of Bees keeper Shane Gore.
The half-time protest warmed up the fans and the team responded after the break as the rain came down and quickened up the pace of the game.
Barnet still posed the biggest threat in front of goal however with Richard Graham twice going close from the edge of the box, the second of which producing a fine reaction save from Holloway.
Boro's Adam Theo came too close to putting the ball through his own net, while substitute Lee Roach saw his glancing header from Graham's corner fly just wide of the far post.
Holloway could well have sealed what would have been the ultimate in smash and grab raids from Taggart's throughball late on, but Boro fans would have been happy to end what has been a turbulent fortnight on a somewhat happier note.

With Ismail Yakabu still not fully fit, Barnet fielded the same starting line-up as against Farnborough in midweek, with one change on the bench; former Crystal Palace midfielder, Craig Dobson, replacing Protec youngster, Daniel Gwyther. This meant that Simon King continued in his role at centre back with Simon Clist filling in on the left side.
Barnet had the better of the first 20 minutes with Richie Graham going close when he hit the side netting when he might have done better. Later, Graham, finding a lot of space on the left, crossed well only for Liam Hatch to get under his cross and head badly over the top.
Having dominated the early stages, Barnet had a slack five minutes and paid for it when poor play by Ben Strevens, lead to Halifax midfielder, Dean Howell, picking the ball up in midfield, driving through an off-balance Barnet midfield, rounding Shane Gore and scoring with a firm shot into an empty net for a very well taken goal.
Barnet were a bit unlucky with a possible penalty award ignored following a handball in the area, but further slack play lead to them falling further behind. On 35 minutes, Halifax were awarded a free kick on the right of the penalty area. Barnet’s attempt to play the offside trap failed and centre-back Mark Monington was left with an easy task of slotting his shot past Gore for Halifax’s second goal.
Half-Time: 2-0
Barnet came out for the second half determined to make up for their disappointing first half performance and the players got together for a group huddle before the game re-started.
They were soon rewarded when, five minutes into the second half, following some nice interplay between Graham and Simon Clist, Graham sped down the left touchline, cut in and put a dangerous cross over, which Halifax defender, Steve Haslam, making his home debut, sliced over goalkeeper, Ian Dunbavin into the far corner of the net for an own-goal.
This goal brought Barnet right back into the game and was followed by their best spell of the game. Though Gore had to save smartly following a crisp snapshot from Howell, Barnet were by now in control of the game and were attacking with far more invention, while at the same time closing Halifax down tightly in midfield.
Hatch missed a good chance to put Barnet level when he scuffed his shot well wide when clear of the Shaymen’s defence, before he made amends in the 68th minute. Richie Graham’s run was broken up on the edge of the penalty area, but some slack defending by Halifax lead to the ball arriving at Hatch’s feet on the edge of the penalty area and he made no mistake this time, driving it into the far corner of the net, giving Dunbavin no chance.
A minute later and the comeback was complete. Spotting Dunbavin off his line, Guiliano Grazioli hit a wonderful lob over the former Shrewsbury goalkeeper, into the top of the Halifax goal for a magnificent goal, already, surely, a contender for goal of the year award!!!!!!!
The Halifax fans were stunned into silence as the players all ran towards Paul Fairclough in celebration of Grazioli’s winner. Barnet controlled the rest of the game with Chris Plummer dealing easily with most of Halifax’s poor tactic of using the long high ball.
However, Halifax almost sneaked an equaliser with a fine curving shot from lively midfielder, Martin Foster, which just curled wide of Shane Gore’s left hand post. In spite of a rather surprising four minutes of injury time added on following a half with hardly any stoppages, Barnet held on comfortably for an historic win.
Halifax manager, Chris Wilder must be sick of the sight of Grazioli by now!

Barnet 4-0 Northwich
Barnet's unbeaten start to the season continued at Underhill as Northwich Victoria were crushed 4-0 by the rampant Bees.
The Vics had started well and had Paul Brayson's shot gone in instead of hitting the post on eight minutes, the Cheshire side may have got something from this game.
The catalyst for the Vics' miserable afternoon however was the 36th minute sending-off of captain Peter Handyside for a professional foul on Bees hitman Guiliano Grazioli in the area.
Handyside was given his marching orders and Bees skipper Ian Hendon blasted the resultant penalty to Ben Connett's right.
Further goals from Dean Sinclair before the interval and Liam Hatch in the second half, with Grazioli adding a fourth, stretched Barnet unbeaten run to four games.
The home side never gave the Vics time to settle with Richard Graham harassing from the left and Hendon being a nuisance to the Vics defence from the right.
Having gone into the lead, the Bees made early use of the numerical advantage when ex-Norwich City man Sinclair netted his first Barnet goal on 40 minutes after being put through by Graham.
When Northwich did attack they found Bees keeper Ricky Millard in inspired form, pulling off a double side from Brayson and Mark Quayle's follow-up on 52 minutes.
The Bees were further ahead when Graham, seemingly chasing a lost cause, crossed from the left and Hatch headed in for the Bees third.
Man of the match Hendon's 65th minute throw-in was missed by everyone except an alert Grazioli, whose spectacular overhead kick was buried in Connett's net for Barnet's fourth.

Canvey Island v Barnet
Monday, 30th August 2004
Nationwide Conference
Attendance: 1230
Score: 0-1
Goals: Barnet: Sinclair (27)

With news that Shane Gore would be out for about 6 weeks, Ricky Millard continued to deputise in goal. Chris Plummer had received a knock at the weekend and was replaced by fit again, Ismail Yakubu, with Simon Clist continuing at left back.

Canvey, in their first season in the Conference, started the match unbeaten and fresh from a first win away at Exeter, two days before. However, it was Barnet who started the game the stronger with Liam Hatch, in particular, causing the Canvey defence all sorts of problems. Hatch had a couple of clear chances which he might have done better with and Dwane Lee sent Canvey keeper, Potter, sprawling across the goal to keep out a speculative shot.

Barnet were well in control and just before the half hour, Dean Sinclair, finding space on the right hand side of the penalty area, jinked past two defenders before unleashing a terrific shot past a despairing Potter to put the Bees a goal up.

Canvey created few problems for Barnet though Ricky Millard had to make a fine tip-over save following a long shot from Chris Duffy. At the other end an out of sorts Ben Strevens, got around the back of the Canvey defence and crossed for Guiliano Grazioli, only for the Bees’ top scorer to head wide when well placed.

Half Time: 0-1

After controlling most of the first half, Barnet seemed happy to play a game of containment in the second, letting Canvey Island have most of the possession. Despite this, Barnet had the better of the chances, Potter foiling Grazioli twice, the first time with a fine save, tipping Graz’s close-in shot over the bar.

Canvey rarely threatened for all their possession, with the central defence of Simon King and Ismail Yakubu dealing with most of anything Canvey threw at them and stifling Canvey’s high scoring striker, Lee Boylan, who limped off late in the game. On the rare occasions when Canvey did break through on the right, they were foiled by a sublime performance at left back by Simon Clist, who impressed the Bees’ fans with his tackling, heading and fine distribution.

However, Barnet almost let their lead slip, a few minutes from the end when Ricky Millard had to make an excellent save following a close-in header from former Barnet trialist, Ben Sedgemore. A few nerve wracking minutes followed
as time added on seemed to go on for ever for the Bees’ fans. At the end Barnet’s third win on the trot and their fourth in five games, meant that they ended the day top of the Conference following Dagenham & Redbridge’s defeat at Crawley Town.

Barnet 5-1 Morecambe
Five-star Barnet ran riot against ten-man Morecambe in a dramatic encounter Underhill.
The Bees started at place and Morecambe found themselves with backs against the wall. Giuliano Grazioli's header on four minutes was well saved by Adam Sollitt.
The Shrimps however could have stolen the lead when Chris Blackburn got on the end of Kieron Walmsley free-kick, but his header from only six yards went straight at Ricky Millard.
The visitors were then forced to defend for long periods with Grazioli and Liam Hatch proving to be a persistent threat in attack.
Grazioli thought he given the Bees the lead after 22 minutes when his overhead kick looped over the head of Sollitt, but an acrobatic goal-line clearance from Michael Twiss kept the scores level.
As the temperature on the pitch rose, so too did the tempers. Referee Yerby started to lose his common sense and issued yellow cards for fairly innocent challenges.
The Shrimps were then dealt a tougher task of maintaining a clean sheet when Walmsley received a second yellow card.
After the restart it was the visitors were quicker out of the blocks and despite being under pressure for much of the first half they actually took the lead.
Terry McFlynn's beautiful piece of individual skill put them one up in the 59th minute. He flicked the ball over Simon Clist's head before calmley slotting the ball past Millard much to the delight of the 64 travelling fans.
Morecambe's goal ignited the hosts.
Simon King scored his first goal for the club two minutes after McFlynn's strike.
Captain Ian Hendon then gave the Bees the lead from the penalty spot. His powerful drive was thumped straight down middle of the goal after Grazioli had won the kick after being hacked down by Sollitt.
Grazioli added two more for his fifth and sixth goals of the season. His first on 73 minutes was a diving header at the far post after Hatch supplied the pass.
His second three minutes later was clinical. He produced a neat flick and dinked the ball over Sollitt before tapping the ball into the empty net.
Substitute Nick Bailey completed the scoring in the 90th minute as the Morecambe defence finally ran out of steam.

Nationwide Conference, Saturday 11th September 2004 @ 15:00; The Lamb Ground
Tamworth 0-2 Barnet
Leaders Barnet continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable win at Tamworth.
A Dean Sinclair strike after 13 minutes and Giuliano Grazioli's seventh goal of the season on the stroke of half-time were enough to keep Paul Fairclough's men in pole position and condemn Mark Cooper's Lambs to their third consecutive defeat.
But it could have been different if Lambs defender Matt Redmile's header against his former club after just one minute had been allowed to stand, but he was penalised for pushing.
Barnet recovered from the early scare and began to boss the game with Sinclair forcing Lambs keeper Ryan Price into a superb one-handed save low to his left, but Price could do nothing about Sinclair's opening goal.
The Bees midfielder capitalised on a weak defensive header from Aaron Brown and lashed the ball beyond Price.
Tamworth were rocked by the immediate loss of player-manager Cooper, who limped off with an ankle injury.
Tris Whitman should have equalised for Tamworth on 21 minutes when the ball fell kindly to him eight yards from goal after a poor back header from Simon King, but the Lambs' topscorer blazed over.
On the stroke of half-time, Brown slipped again and Sinclair stole in behind the Lambs defence and squared the ball to Grazioli who rolled the ball into the empty net.
Tamworth tried to get back into the game in the second half, but found no way passed a Barnet defence marshalled superbly by captain Ian Hendon and only two good blocks from Brown stopped Grazioli adding a third for the visitors.
Dwane Lee was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 85th minute after a tackle on Chad Shepperd that sparked a mass brawl.

Nationwide Conference, Saturday 18th September 2004 @ 15:00; Underhill Stadium
Barnet 4-1 Gravesend
Bandaged Liam Hatch wrapped up the points for rampaging Barnet with a first-half brace as the Bees humiliated Gravesend 4-1.
Hatch, whose arm was in plaster with a fractured wrist, helped end Gravesend's unbeaten away run stretching back nine months as Barnet maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
Barnet were by far the classier team, and the visitors came to kick their way to a result.
Barnet refused to compromise their slick passing style and this eventually forced Gravesend's defence to collapse.
In the 36th minute, star man Richard Graham drifted a corner into the danger area and Hatch rose unchallenged to head through goalkeeper Charlie Mitten's legs.
Then, on the stroke of half time, Barnet sealed it.
A mistake by Mitten in dealing with Jay Saunders' back header allowed Giuliano Grazioli to slide the ball into an empty net for his eighth goal of the season.
A minute later Graham's free-kick was again spilled by Mitten and Hatch lifted a volley over the defender on the line and into the roof of the net.
Dean Sinclair made sure of the points as he rounded Mitten and poked into an empty net with ten minutes left.
Substitute Emmanuel Omoyinmi pulled a goal back late on when he pounced on a loose ball and smashed his shot past Barnet keeper Ricky Millard.
Chris Moore was sent off for a second bookable offence to further frustrate Gravesend. It was just not their day.

Barnet 2-3 Burton
Barnet's unbeaten run came to an abrupt end against Burton Albion, after the Brewers came from behind on two occasions before eventually nicking the winner at Underhill.
Burton player-coach Nigel Clough named himself amongst the substitutes just the day after the death of his father, Brian.
The players responded and a Dave Anderson strike after 57 minutes ensured that the Midlands club took all three points, while Barnet were condemned to their first defeat of the season.
The home side started well and Dean Sinclair gave them the lead in the sixteenth minute with his fifth goal of the season, after racing onto Giuliano Grazioli's flick on, he kept his cool to fire a low shot into the bottom right hand corner.
The Brewers drew level through Robbie Talbot on 30 minutes. Burton sprung the Barnet offside trap when a Michael Simpkins cross found Craig Dudley. He then cut the ball back for Talbot to tap in from five yards.
While Barnet were left scratching their heads, lightning nearly struck twice as Talbot could have made it two, when he left the Barnet back four looking for a offside flag that never came. But the former Morecambe player saw his shot saved when really he should have scored.
Just as the visitors were imposing themselves into the game, Barnet regained the lead. Liam Hatch scored his fifth of the season to finish a neat Barnet move. Richard Graham found Ben Strevens with acres of space. He in turn fed Ian Hendon, whose cross was headed in by Hatch on the stroke of half time.
After the restart Talbot grabbed his second of the evening when he converted Andrew Ducros free-kick on 55 minutes to level the score. Two minutes later Anderson made it 3-2, and despite six minutes of injury time Albion were able to hold onto their lead.
